The race for the first living person to have 10 million friends on Facebook is hotting up as American pop star Lady Gaga overtakes American President Barack Obama on the world’s most popular social networking Website. Lady Gaga had over 9.95 million Facebook friends while  Barack Obama is lagging behind with over 9.5 million friends, at the time of writing this post.

According to Yahoo, the United States president had more Facebook friends than Lady Gaga as of last week, although a Michael Jackson remembrance page surpasses both with over 14 million friends so far. A similar trend could be observed on Twitter where Lady Gaga’s Twitter account, @ladygaga, has attracted more followers than Obama’s @barackobama account.

While the @barackobama account has around 4.42 million followers, the @ladygaga account has about 4.72 million although the title for the largest number of Twitter followers belongs to Britney Spears @britneyspears account with around 5.24 million followers.

The United States president’s Twitter and Facebook accounts are managed by his political arm, Organizing for America.
