The latest expansion of Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft (WoW) series, Cataclysm, comes with a bang. Moreso, as it is the first major upgrade of the “world’s most popular video game” in two years. WoW Cataclysm, introduces two new races to the game and re-makes the world in which WoW is set up by changing the geography of many familiar places. The expansion evolves around the emergence of the evil dragon aspect Deathwing the Destroyer which causes a seismic activity that changes almost every part of the game world.
Many of the geographical changes to Azeroth was already previously applied to the game via a patch, in late November. The expansion pack allowed subscribers to create worgen (wolfmen) and goblin characters. Other changes include alterations to the quests (many of which are themed around helping regions recover from the devastation caused by Deathwing) that players must take part in order to progress to higher levels of the game. Furthermore, through the introduction of five new zones and dungeons, the level cap for players was increased to 85 from 80. Overall, the implementation of these changes is seen by game experts as a bid to reinvigorate World of Warcraft and make it more appealing to WoW veterans and newbies alike.
