Google Tool Launched To Help Japan Tsunami Victims

Following the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan, Google has released a version of its Person Finder service to help people find victims or report on their whereabouts. The Person Finder will work as a Web directory and message board where people can either look for lost friends and relatives or leave a note to confirm their safety. The system, which was very useful after other recent natural disasters like the Haiti and New Zealand earthquake, has been designed to be embedded on Websites and social network pages so as to reach as many people and aid agencies as possible.

Already, the Japan quake Person Finder logged and was tracking over 7,200 records in the first few hours following the earthquake.The usefulness of these tools cannot be overemphasised particularly because the magnitude (8.9) of the earthquake means that thousands of people would be displaced.Tsunami alerts have been issued for other countries including, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, New Zealand, and others with more strong waves expected. Meanwhile, Web users who would like to donate to victims are advised to do so with only trusted and reliable sources as scammers are unfortunately known to usually take advantage of these  kind of situations to trick unsuspecting donors to part with their money.
