Runkeeper

Founded in 2008, RunKeeper has become one of the more popular fitness apps around, even making it to the Top 10 apps for the iPhone in 2009, What’s so special about RunKeeper is the Coaching feature, which allows you to set training intervals. For example, the preset training interval (2 Miles with Rest) let you clock one mile at a steady pace, 0.25 miles at slow pace before picking up for another one mile, all via the voice guidance of RunKeeper. You can also customize the app to provide audio cues for a variety of settings such as time, distance and average speed.
Sports Tracker

Developed by a dedicated team of mobile and outdoor enthusiasts in Finland, Sports Tracker was originally known as Nokia Sports Tracker for Symbian S60 on Nokia’s Beta Labs, before the project was shut down and then resurrected by the original developers behind the app on non-Nokia platforms. Besides giving you options to set the activity, Sports Tracker has a unique feature named Auto Pause, which will pause the tracking if you fail to hit the minimum speed threshold. This in turn motivates you to maintain a reasonable speed during your training. Sports Tracker brings social elements into the app through the Explore tab by allowing you to see the training sessions by other users. You can also view the individuals who are training in your neighborhood and make friends. Who knows, you all may end up as training buddies.
Endomondo Sports Tracker

The name “Endomondo” is a combination of Endo (for Endorphins) and Mondo (for enormous or big). Endomondo is one of the most web-friendly fitness apps you can find. It is quite easy to use – launch the app, select your activity, and either start immediately or choose a countdown timer. You can set the app to automatically share your workouts on Facebook, One key feature is Peptalk, which allows your friends to send messages to motivate you while working out Text will be converted to speech and played through your earphones, or smartphone speakers.
Runtastic GPS Sports Assistant For Training & Biking

Runtastic has one of the simplest user interfaces among the six apps compared. The home screen displays the timer the distance clocked, your speed and the GPS signal strength. The GPS connection status is indicated on-screen by a colored ball, which flashes red when searching for GPS satellites to connect to, and green when locked on. After your workout the app will present a summary of statistics including duration, calories burnt average speed and pace, as well as maximum speed.
