In November of 2008, a paper was posted to a crypto mailer list titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.” During this time the value of the first Bitcoin transactions was negotiated by a few members on a bitcoin forum with one notable transaction of 10,000 BTC used to indirectly purchase 2 pizzas. You could be tempted to think that this must be the most expensive pizza in history but at that time the Bitcoin was worth much less than now.
In 2011, based on Bitcoin’s technology, other crypto currencies started to surface. By 2017, a single bitcoin’s value reached more than $4000. Now in 2019, the price of Bitcoin went even higher to above $10,000. In 2020 the value of 1 Bitcoin could reach $20,000 or even more.
Crypto is on the rise as it has many benefits, such as security, speed, transaction fees, easy to store and manage and relevance in the digital era. It is without a doubt that we won’t have to wait much longer to see crypto currencies as a world-wide accepted means of payment.
Crypto Money Guru made an interesting list of a few surprising organizations that accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. Let’s take a closer look at these companies and what they have to offer in exchange for your Bitcoins.
#1 Virgin Galactic Ever wanted to take your Bitcoin to the moon? Literally? Well now you can, just send a few Bitcoins to Virgin and you are on your way. Maybe Sir Richard Branson will be your co-pilot, nevertheless, this is really a great way to spend Bitcoins.
2. OVERSTOCK.COM: this company stands as the first retailer to accept Bitcoins. They deal in household stuff ranging from electronics to beddings. They make it easy to pay with bitcoin by just choosing the “pay with bitcoin” option at checkout.
#3 eGIFTER: eGifter deals in eGift cards online. They partner with Coinbase and accept bitcoins as the form of payment for gift card purchases. Gift cards can then be used to make online purchases on various marketplaces.
#4 NAMECHEAP: You can use bitcoin to buy hosting, SSL certificates or register your domain names with Namecheap.com
#5 SUBWAY: Subway franchises started accepting Bitcoin for payments for their “Eat Fresh” products. But don’t go running to your local shop yet. Unfortunately, this is only available in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
#6 EXPEDIA: After teaming up with Coinbase, one of the world largest travel sites started to accept Bitcoin. This is great if you can’t afford a Virgin Galactic yet and still want to fly the skies.
#7 MICROSOFT: After some drama, Microsoft is back to accepting BTC as a payment option. Purchase of apps movies etc. can be done from Microsoft online stores using Bitcoin. It’ great that a large company like Microsoft is accepting Bitcoins.
