Preparing Your Canon Camera to Be Sold: 3 Top Tips to Help You Sell Your Used Canon Camera

With some elbow grease and a little bit of effort, you can soon get your old Canon camera ready for sale, generating the cash to put towards the latest new kit.

There comes a time in every photographer’s life when it’s time to say a fond goodbye to their trusty first camera, and upgrade to a newer, more advanced model that will enable them to progress their photography skills.

However, good cameras don’t come cheap, so if you’re considering an upgrade, it’s worth selling your old Canon camera and putting the money you make towards the new purchase. And with some consideration and a little bit of effort, you can soon get your equipment ready for sale.

Give it a good clean

Cameras can pick up a lot of dust, dirt and smears through everyday use, so the first thing you need to do before putting your Canon camera up for sale is to make sure it’s in tip-top shape. And this usually means employing some elbow grease and giving it a thorough clean.

Use a Lenspen, air-blower, or simply a small brush to remove the small bits of grit, sand and dust that often collects in the gaps of the camera body. Next, take a soft microfibre cloth and some rubbing alcohol and give the camera body a wipe down, tackling any tough marks with an old toothbrush.

Cleaning the lens itself can be a delicate operation so be sure to proceed carefully to avoid causing any damage. A blower can help to remove dust, before using a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth and lens cleaner to treat any remaining dirt.

Use the original packaging

Once you’ve given your camera a spring clean, you need to think about how to present your equipment in the best possible light. Cameras that are sold in their original boxes tend to sell more quickly and for a higher price, so it’s worth digging out the packaging it was originally sold in. While you’re at it, try to locate any accessories that came with the camera, such as the camera strap, software, and user manual, as these will help to make it a more attractive proposition for potential buyers.

And don’t forget to take some good quality snaps of your Canon camera. All too often, an advert for a used camera is let down by poor-quality and badly-lit photographs. As a photographer you know that a picture says a thousand words – so make sure your sales photographs are talking the customer’s language.

Finding the right platform

Once your Canon camera is ready for sale, you need to think about how and where you’re going to sell it. There are a number of different options available to you, including online marketplaces such as Gumtree and auction sites such as eBay. However, there tends to be a lot of competition on these kinds of websites which could make it difficult to get the price you want, or even to find a seller at all.

If you’re looking to sell Canon camera for cash, you may want to consider going through a specialist used camera dealer – either online or in person. This sales method has the benefit of speed and convenience, with most dealers offering an immediate quote and immediate payment.

Of course, the dealer will take a commission, but they will provide you with fast cash that you can put towards your next big purchase that will help to take your photography to the next level.
