Top 5 Tips for Boosting the Speed of Your Website

There are several easy ways through which you can boost the speed of your website and enhance its performance.

Websites are paramount for each and every type of business in the current era. Without having a robust online presence through a website, no business will be able to grow because the amount of people looking for your company on the internet is very large and if they don’t find your website, then the trustworthiness and loyalty of your company might be hampered.

Setting up a website for any business is not tough, but making it fit according to SEO, readability, attractiveness, and content can be tricky. Without a good and responsive website, you will be not able to enhance your search engine ranking and even your bounce rate will increase because if people land on a dull website then they will move out of it quickly.

Other than the above-mentioned features, the speed of a website also plays a very crucial role in deciding how your online presence will grow. There are many factors which affect the speed of your website like the platform which you are using for building your website, the size of images, hosting services, etc.

Therefore, in this blog post, we will be looking at the top 5 tips which you can use to boost the speed of your website and make it better for visitors and clients.

Use of CDN

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is basically a collection of web servers that are distributed on multiple locations for delivering content in a more efficient manner to the users. If a user is visiting your website from Australia then they will be downloading the files from the server that is nearest to them. Now, because the bandwidth is distributed among so many servers, it minimizes the load on any single server. Along with that, it also protects your website from DDoS attacks and traffic spikes.

If you are hosting your website on a Content Delivery Network, then the speed of your website will surely increase because the use of CDN can save up to 60% of bandwidth and reduce 50% of the requests made by your website.

Upgrade your hosting plan

Upgrading your hosting plan is one of the easiest and proven methods of speeding up your website.
In most of the cases, people opt for shared hosting services in the initial phase of their online presence. But with the growth of usage and content, the site becomes slower. The easiest way to battle this diminishing speed is to upgrade your hosting plan and move to a VPS or dedicated option.

For example, if you will be using the Bluehost’s basic shared plan then with the growth of your website, you might notice that the speed of your website is getting slower. So in such cases, it is better to switch to Bluehost’s managed WordPress hosting plan.

Optimizing the size of your images

Having high-definition, ultra-clear images on your website might be looking very good, but the size of the images used on your website plays a very important role on its speed.

One of the easiest ways to optimize the images on your website and making them internet-friendly is to shrink their size and reduce the number of images used on your website. While reducing the size of the image, you have the following three options:-

  • Change the resolution of the image and reduce its size
  • Compressing the image which will increase the efficiency of image data storage
  • Cropping the picture and cutting off unnecessary parts of the image.

You can use advanced software like Photoshop for making changes in your image or you can also opt for a free platform like Gimp.

Fix all your broken links

Broken links are the biggest enemies of your website because it doesn’t only affect the bandwidth but it also plays a main role in forcing visitors to leave your site. When a user will click on a link and reach on a dead-end 404 error, then there are great chances of him getting frustrated with your website and he may never return as well.

Another big impact of broken links is that it restricts the flow of link equity throughout your site and it affects your ranking in the worst way possible.

You can use the following tools for finding the broken links on your website:-

  • Google Webmaster Tools
  • Screaming Frog SEO Spider
  • Ahrefs
  • Xenu

Enable caching plugins and use simple website design

Another great way of reducing the loading speed of your website is by using caches. If you are using a CDN like WordPress then you can install a caching plugin like WP Total Cache or WP Super Cache. But in the case you are using WP Engine, then you don’t need to install any extra plugin as it has already a cache plugin which comes built-in. You can use both the plugins very easily and they both are free as well.

Along with that, you should also use a simple website design because that contributes a lot to increase the loading speed of your website. One of the main reasons why a simple website design enhances the speed is because such designs reduce the number of HTTP requests which your website needs to make in order to load it.

If you are noticing high bounce rate, decrease in the number of visitors even after having a fantastic website, then you should have a look at the speed of your website. An average website with good loading speed will obviously perform better than an excellent website with a below average loading speed. So use the top 5 tips mentioned in this blog post and boost the speed of your website effortlessly.

The best thing I support is using CDN. Especially, cloudflare’s premium network. Cloudflare premium CDN does provide local connection to the nearest datacenter. However, Akamai and other similar services can be used to protect and speed up your website.
    Anyways, thanks for the article.
