How to Apply to the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Nova Scotia, a breathtaking province in Canada, is located on the Atlantic. Not only does it stand out in terms of scenic beauty but Nova Scotia is known for its relatively relaxed quality of life. Nova Scotia offers quite established family-friendly, and affordable lifestyle.

To live and settle down in Nova Scotia is a dream come true for many immigrants and like all other provinces in Canada, Nova Scotia has its own variation of the provincial nominee program or the Nova Scotia PNP.

The Nova Scotia PNP for immigrants targets individuals who are capable of establishing themselves and contributing towards the economy of Nova Scotia. Since Nova Scotia is actively seeking out skilled and work-ready immigrants to fill the gaps in their workforce, they expedite the process of visa and permanent residence applications. In fact, PR visa applications are sometimes processed in as little a span of time as 3 to 4 months.

What is the process for applying for the Nova Scotia PNP?

The Nova Scotia PNP is largely based on the Canada Express Entry system for immigrants.

In order to apply to the Nova Scotia PNP, you need to submit an application to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration or the NSOI and create a profile on the Canada Express Entry online system. Then, you need to fulfill one of the following two conditions. You should either have a valid job offer from a Nova Scotia employer or you should have at least 10 years of experience in an occupation that is highlighted in Nova Scotia’s list of opportunity occupations.

You should also have completed a language proficiency test in either English or French to apply to the Nova Scotia PNP.

The eligibility to the PNP is determined with the help of a ranking system based on points calculated for 6 factors. These 6 factors indicate an individual’s ability to live, settle, and flourish in Canada.

The 6 factors are language, age, educational credentials, work experience, employment, and adaptability. Each of these factors carries certain points, the sum of which leads to a maximum score of 100 points. In order to be eligible as an applicant, you need to score a minimum of 67 points out of 100.

Once you have gathered all the requisite documents as per the Nova Scotia immigrant application requirements, you need to get clear and valid photocopies of all these documents. If any or all of your documents are in your native language, it is crucial to get these documents translated into English or French.

Remember to correctly consolidate all your documents while applying to the Nova Scotia PNP. If any discrepancies are observed, your application will be delayed.

All your documents will be assessed by the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration or the NSOI. The NSOI will notify you, in writing whether your application has been rejected or selected. If selected, a nomination will be made on your behalf to Citizenship and Immigration.

If you have been notified of a nomination, the next step is to apply for Permanent Residence to Citizenship and Immigration Canada before the validity of the nomination expires. The period of validity of the nomination is 6 months from the date of nomination.

If your application is complete, you will be promptly notified of further steps to complete the process and welcome you to Nova Scotia.
