3 Tips on Buying the Perfect Tile for Your Bathroom

Choosing the right tiles can almost immediately improve any room in your home, including your bathroom. However, there are a lot of things you still have to consider when you are building or renovating your home when you come across tiles that are for sale.

The options available for choosing your tiles can be overwhelming. There are hundreds of different kinds of tiles to choose from for your floor, wall or features. There are also a wide variety of color schemes to choose from, as well as your choice of porcelain, ceramic or other material.

It is always important to find the time to think about what kinds of tiles you love and which kinds are perfect for your home, so here are three tips on buying the perfect tile for your bathroom.

Choose the one tile design you want first

Usually, when a person decides to renovate their bathroom, they almost always have a tile they want to use in mind. Sometimes it is just as simple as knowing that you want a white, subway tile and sometimes it is a really unique or special accent tile.

Nevertheless, if you have a dream tile or tile design in mind, take it and use it as the jumping-off point for the other tiles that you will need to choose for your bathroom.

Try to limit yourself to just three different tiles

Once you have made your first choice of tile and now have your starting point, use it to help you decide the other tiles you will need to include in your design. If the tile you prefer has a unique color pattern and is going to be the center of your design, choose more subtle colors from it to use in your accent tiles.

You might also want to add something more interesting like a smaller scale white penny tile or a colorful accent tile to add interest and change up the design if your initial choice is plain.

Generally, you are going to choose an accent tile that is going to be the focus of your design. Then you are going to choose a wall tile surrounding the tub or shower, a tile for all of the walls in your bathroom, and lastly, a floor tile. These are just guidelines, however, do not be afraid to bend the rules a little bit.

Consider the maintenance of your tiles

You probably don’t like cleaning the bathroom; the tub and the shower especially. So when you choose your tile for these areas that are typically going to be wet, you probably want to pick a ceramic or porcelain tile since they are essentially maintenance-free.

Double check if your tiles need to be sealed before you use them though; tiles made from natural stone especially require more maintenance and need to be sealed.

Key Takeaway

One of the most enjoyable decisions you are going to have to make when you decide to build or remodel a bathroom in your home is choosing the tiles. They can set the tone for the whole look and feel of the finished bathroom and will most likely be the first thing you or your guests are going to notice.

The next time you come across some tiles for sale, remember these few tips and make your dream bathroom a reality.
