These 4 Tips Will Help You Optimize Your Infrastructure

While many enterprises have been able to manage their IT successful for years and years, the incredible innovation and growth in the data and technology industries are making optimization a must. Trying to manage a complex IT infrastructure in the modern day is quite difficult.

Thankfully, it is not impossible. There are several things that you can do to help optimize your infrastructure, and this article will go over a few of them.

Make Sure to Monitor It

First and foremost, it is difficult to optimize your IT infrastructure if you are unsure of what is happening within it. As a result, it is very important to monitor the infrastructure to ensure everything is performing and running smoothly. Monitoring will give you a variety or metrics such as memory, network traffic, load averages and more.

Thankfully, there are tools that exist out there that can make monitoring your IT infrastructure relatively simple, easy and inexpensive. One of the best options is AppOptics by Solarwinds, which provides a low cost and high quality solution.

Simplify Your Data Center

As mentioned earlier, IT infrastructure and data centers are growing increasingly complex and this can be incredibly hard for some enterprises and companies to manage. So instead of allowing it to become more complex, why not simplify your data center. Also, the first step to optimization is simplifying your existing system.

The process begins with evaluating the applications that you are using within your infrastructure. If you find that some of the apps are doing the same thing as another, or some are going unused most of the time, they can generally be removed which will help your data center(s) become more simple and streamlined.

Look for Automation When Possible

Automation is one of the best things you can do to help optimize your infrastructure. If processes that have been previously done manually are able to be transitioned to an automated approach, it will instantly increase the efficiency of your infrastructure. It will free up company time so individuals can focus on other pressing needs.

Automation can help in the testing stages, can help you effortlessly send out and implement updates and do so much more. As things get more and more complex, it is going to be harder and harder for people to manually do certain things, so automation is definitely the future and will save you a ton of time, energy and money in the long run.

Choose Low-Cost Locations For Data Centers

Data centers are very important for companies, but are sadly growing more expensive in many large cities. As a result, many companies are choosing small towns and other low-cost areas for data centers. This allows for more inexpensive power, as well as the potential for tax and/or property breaks.

You can also look to  reduce the footprint and cost of your data center by either utilizing the cloud or by sharing facilities or locations with others. Remember, with the continuously increasing growth of information, there is always a need for more space, but getting that space is not always cheap or easy.
