4 Things to Consider for Your Company’s Social Media

In 2018, it is all but a necessity to have a social media profile for your business. Digital marketing is incredibly important and social media is a great way to get your name out there, as well as ensuring you interact with your customers and hear their concerns.

However, there are a lot of different concerns and things to consider with a company social media account. It isn’t as simple as running your own personal Twitter or Instagram account. With that in mind, this article will take a look at a few things to consider for the social media account for your company

Keep a Consistent Brand

Arguably the most important thing you can do for your company social media accounts is to keep a consistent brand. This basically means that the type of content you are posting remains basically the same, so your followers know what to expect. While they can’t obviously be the same posts every time, they should have a very similar voice.

This should also translate across platforms. You shouldn’t have a totally different voice or brand on Facebook from how you are on Twitter. If you are all over the place and there is no cohesion in your posting strategies, it can be hard for people to connect with you.

Ensure You Are Compliant

Depending on what industry you are a part of, there is a chance that you will have some rules and/or regulators that you need to comply with. Oftentimes, this will require you to archive all of your social media posts and conversations, which can be a very daunting task to do. It is incredibly important to get this right, so it should almost certainly be outsourced.

Working with a third-party company or service will ensure that everything is covered, including three of the most important parts of Digital Compliance Archiving: Software, Supervision, Reporting. The services available to you will ensure that you will comply with all the regulations you need to with your social media accounts, which can potentially save you a lot of time.

The Internet is Forever

While you can edit and delete posts if you catch them in time if not, the internet is forever. Once something is saved or screen-capped by someone else it is out of your control. Everything that is posted on there has a chance of living on in perpetuity. As a result, you need to be very selective about what you post. While you might not mean a certain post a certain way, it could still get misconstrued by others.

As many previous examples have shown, many companies seem to forget this fact. So unless you want to suffer a ton of bad press and backlash, you should ensure that you always make sure you are 100% confident with everything you tweet or post.

Maintain a Schedule/Routine

Just like keeping a consistent brand on social media is important, so is maintaining a fairly consistent posting schedule. For example, if you go from posting 5 times a day to 3 times a month, your followers and fans are likely going to be very confused and might unfollow. Instead, try and always post in a predictable and familiar fashion.

As for how often to post, that will depend. Each account is different, and there is no right or wrong amount to post. Some companies can post multiple times a day, while others only a few times a week. Do some experimenting early on and see what works best for you and your company.
