A Close Look at How a Backlink Profile Helps with SEO

Business owners typically concentrate on keywords related to their business niche and other on-page search engine optimization factors. Unfortunately, many of them fail to realize that a backlink profile helps with SEO. Backlinks excel when it comes to helping a site get high rankings in the major search engines.

Some digital marketing experts believe that backlinks may account for as much as 85 percent of the weight that major search engine rankings algorithms give websites on the internet. This is why it’s imperative for you to secure backlinks from other credible websites. In the end, you will get more traffic to your website.

Here are some basic guidelines on building backlinks to your website:

What are Backlinks?

A backlink is a simple connection between two websites. You could have two internal links between two internal two web pages. You could also have internal links to different pages on your website. A backlink is a link that points from another website to yours.

Why a Backlink Profile Helps with SEO

Links show the website’s popularity. In layman terms, a backlink tells the search engines that a site finds your site worthy of their readers. Search engines are designed to give favorable rankings to sites that share valuable content with readers. Higher rankings will put your website in a prime position to get more visitors.

There are some things you must keep in mind before you start working on your backlink campaign. For instance, a backlink from a high-ranked website will hold more weight than a backlink from a low-ranked website. A backlink from a site within your niche has more value. Your website’s overall value will be determined by the number of quality backlinks pointing at your site.

How to Start Building Backlinks to Your Website

As I stated earlier, your backlink profile helps with SEO. Chances are that you are getting backlinks to your site if you share engaging content with your targeted audience. However, this is not enough for you to make your website competitive in the search engines. It’s imperative for you to develop quality backlinks daily.

Please keep the following in mind:

1. Develop your backlinks gradually. Search engines are notorious for penalizing sites that seem to manipulate the rankings.

2. It’s tempting, but you should avoid buying backlinks. This “black hat” strategy will trigger a red flag with the search engines. Google doesn’t condone this marketing strategy.

3. Get backlinks from similar sites that publish excellent content.

Over time, you will learn that your backlink profile helps with SEO. There are many ways of getting quality backlinks for your site. Let’s take a quick look at three that shouldn’t be underestimated.

Press Releases: An online press release can give your backlink profile a huge boost.

Guest Posting: Offering to write content for other popular bloggers in your niche will help your site get more exposure and backlinks.

Social Networking: Participating in social networks will brand you as an expert and help you get quality backlinks.

A strong backlink profile helps with SEO. Besides concentrating on keywords, you should focus some of your efforts on building quality backlinks. They will help your site get higher rankings in the search engines.

  1. Nice ideas– and I agree, backlinks should be obtained daily, ideally. You mentioned some good ideas with the importance of backlink profiles. Another one is to understand the backlink velocity (for how quickly competitive sites are getting backlinks) when comparing your site against the competition.

  2. Right, backlinks build the references for websites and Google uses this to measure the reputation and power of a domain. Hence the more backlinks means more power for one domain, and get better ranking eventually. But numbers are no more really important today. Instead of building lots of links, focusing on building links from authoritative relevant sites work much better.
