Awesome Sites for Avoiding Boredom

We all need a good laugh – some good entertainment.

Laughing produces those endorphins that make you feel happy. It can put a smile on your face during a bad day. Laughing can add a twinge of excitement on top of a fun afternoon. It’s why we love comedies and stand-up – and all the funny, entertainment sites from around the Web.

I’d like to share some of my favorites because you’ll definitely get some entertainment out of them.

Oh, Before We Begin

There’s a couple of “necessities” if you want to get the most out of these sites. I’m talking about plugins and making sure your computer/network is set up for maximum hilarity.

I’d recommend:

  • Hover Zoom – It’s a plugin that lets you hover over an image (like thumbnails) to see it without having to click on the page
  • AdBlock – You can whitelist your favorite sites but it’s awesome all around because it makes the pages less distracting plus you don’t want those rogue scripts if you click on a bad link
  • Fast Net – This one’s on you but I’d check the internet service providers by zip code to get something better because you’ll be doing a lot of browsing

Besides that – apps for the sites are good like Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook (which you probably already have but still worth mentioning).

Alright, let’s check out the good stuff:

Let’s Start with Reddit

Reddit “the front page of the Internet” is a clunky site but so massive that you’ll find subreddits for just about any type of topic or interest. There’s a lot of entertainment here because of the in-jokes and original content. I highly suggest creating an account to join some of the ridiculously fun threads.

I’d recommend checking out:

  • r/Me_irl
  • r/BestOf
  • r/WeWantPlates
  • r/MildlyInteresting
  • r/IAmA
  • r/BlackPeopleTwitter
  • r/LiveStreamFails
  • r/TIFU

I’d give you a run-down of what these are but that would spoil the fun. Be sure to sort by Top – All-time for some added goodness.

Moving on to the Odd-Ball Sites

Now let’s get into something a little different – ones that are good fun but not exactly your first choice:

  • Drawball.com – Where you can draw on a canvas shared by everyone in the world
  • Slither.io – A fun game where you try to gobble up other players
  • Cookie Clicker – A stupidly addictive passive game where you keep growing your cookie stash
  • Bored Panda – Constantly updated with interesting blog posts
  • Don’t Even Reply – One guy’s emails that become bizarre and hilarious
  • YTMND – Still going strong and full of weird humor via pics/gif and sound
  • Flight Radar – To watch flights in real-time

Otherwise, you could use some of these sites to cure your boredom.

Don’t Forget YouTube and Twitch

Want some video or live streaming? Great, check these out:

  • Dan Carlin – The hardcore history channel that’s incredibly in-depth
  • Ice Poseidon – Watch life stream Paul Denino’s descent into madness
  • Screen Junkies – Fun top lists of our favorite entertainment
  • Funhaus – For the video game junkies out there
  • Vagabrothers – If you love watching travel and want tips

If you want to save some of the music videos you find on these channels, then you should use a YouTube converter since sometimes these channels get scrubbed or videos deleted. It’s always good to create little backups so you can listen to the tunes without blowing through data.

Forums are a Goldmine

Forums aren’t nearly as popular as they’re used to but they’re still going strong and there are plenty that’ll keep you entertained for days.

  • Music Banter – For all your music wants and needs
  • 4chan – NSFW but always something interesting (plus tons of original content)
  • Something Awful – If you want to interact with some very strange people on the Web
  • Fan Forum – For everything entertainment from movies to celebrities

Add to the List

What sites or content creators would you add to the list? I’m sure you have a couple “go-to” sites for when you’re bored and want to be entertained. Share your list!
