Four Common Mistakes to Be Aware of When Planning for a Funeral

In today’s hectic world we try to plan for everything. Even if those plans fall a little short, we still do it. There is always something to plan be it buying a home, having children, vacations and our eventual retirement. However, have you given your plans for a funeral any thought? Many of us do not want to think about it let alone plan ours. It may be a little intense for some people to face, or they may not anticipate their funeral for a long time to come.

However, it is never too early to begin considering your funeral arrangements. You do not want to leave your family having to deal with your arrangements once you are gone. They will be extremely emotional and facing numerous decisions that have to be made in a short time period or on the spot. It can become highly stressful to those you love. Preplanning your funeral can help ease the burden on your loved ones and ensure you get the funeral you want. However, there are many mistakes that can be made during this pre planning process, but do not worry we have compiled the most common mistakes here to help you along the way.

1.    Don’t make plans for your funeral until you experience an illness. For some reason many people equate planning a funeral with having an illness. However, this should be further from the truth. You want to be healthy when having to put forth all the energy needed to plan your funeral. Also, you do not want to stress your already stressed and sick body out as you are planning your funeral. You should also consider that your loved ones will already be stressed and worried if you are sick. The best thing to do would be to go ahead and handle all the arrangements while you are still healthy.

2.    Being unclear on what you prefer your funeral to be. You need to get with the appropriate professionals and discuss what you would like at your service. You need to get down to all the tiny details such as, cremation or burial, open casket, visitation, music, food, pictures, etc. Whatever you would like in your service, you need to mention in length with these professionals. And, never be afraid to speak up and ask questions to help ensure that your wishes and instructions are followed perfectly. This will also help your family know that your funeral is exactly how you wanted it and alleviate some of their stress in a highly stressful time.

3.    Excluding your friends and family. You may find it hard to discuss your end of life plans with your family, but they still need to be kept in the know. Luckily, you will not have to discuss every minute detail with them, but they will need to know who to contact when you pass away. If you do not tell them who holds all these wonderful plans for your service, it will be as if they are starting at ground zero. If you want to ensure that all your planning will truly pay off, then you will need to let your family know who to contact, so they can fulfill your wishes without a hitch.

4.    Letting price be the biggest factor in your decisions. Of course, all of us want an affordable funeral. I mean who wants to spend a lot on something we want be around to enjoy. In turn, there are also those of us who during emotional times tend to overspend. It is our way of dealing with stress. Luckily, if you preplan your funeral, you will eliminate that stressful overspending and be able to make the best and most appropriate decisions for your funeral. You will also have the time needed to research and select the best options available.

Preplanning your funeral is one of the best choices you can make. It will help ensure you get what you want and help to alleviate some stress from your loved ones. You will also be able to research and select the best options for your funeral with the most reasonable price tags. It is a win-win situation for all those involved.
