5 Underrated Sith Lord Quotes that Might Save the World

“Every villain is a hero in his own mind.”- Tom Hiddleston

As fans quietly brace themselves for the latest installment to hit theaters this December, let’s pay homage to the legendary villains the Star Wars universe has ever produced. Who can ever forget Star Wars’ Sith Lords: Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, and Darth Vader? Like their heroes, they too are driven to achieve whatever it is they deem important for the world. Let’s take a look at a few of the most underrated lines and ponder how they might save the world from our own tyranny.

I find your lack of faith… disturbing. – Darth Vader, Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope

It could be a lack of faith in our respective beliefs and religions, or just be the lack of faith in ourselves, which is something definitely more disturbing. If you don’t trust yourself, who will? We can never give what we don’t have. If we’re insecure with ourselves, we’ll most likely look at other people the same way.

Some of us may already be jaded because of the countless atrocities going on right now. However, let’s give this gentle reminder a chance of being heard out. Besides, Darth Vader is a former Jedi hero after all.

Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. – Darth Vader, Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope

In Darth Vader’s time, technology is certainly at its best (they live outer space!), so taking his two cents into consideration could definitely help us learn to be careful in utilizing progress. Technological advancements have given us utmost convenience. However, when used to destroy the human race, then that’s another story. Otherwise, we can take out the terror right there.

Unfortunately, technology, despite its advancements, has been used to propagate false impressions for the world to see. Not all, but a lot of people have replaced authentic social relations with social media relations. Twisted ideologies are easily disseminated, affecting the minds of numerous individuals. Indeed, this line reminds us to have a reality check to see how deep our reliance and indulgence to technology has gotten.

Remember back to your early teachings. “All who gain power are afraid to lose it.” – Darth Sidious

It’s nice to be reminded of what’s good and bad, and Darth Sidious here dropped the ultimate line that speaks a lot about what’s currently happening in the world.

Perhaps we’re all like Anakin when he was still a Jedi. He was blinded and easily manipulated by the powerful people around us, he no longer knows who to really believe in. Like him, we despise our position and start thinking about gaining power to take on the role of a messiah. But here, we’re reminded of the age-old teaching about greed. Power enslaves people by giving them absolute authority at their disposal, so people are afraid to let go of that privilege. The struggles we see even in fiction are political, to start with.

Good is a point of view, Anakin. – Darth Sidious, Revenge of the Sith

This one is definitely on point. What may appear good to me, may not be good to you. Truth is definitely relative. While it can be deliberated, we tend to assert our assumption of what’s right and good, ruling out the other as completely the opposite. Doing so all the time can ultimately lead to a severed relationship. Why not try a healthier alternative called a consensus, or just drop the issue and save the relationship instead? It’s pointless and futile to argue over this and that because we all have our own biases, coming from different backgrounds with varying principles and beliefs.

Darth Maul: It has been so long and my path has been so dark. Darker than I ever dreamed it could be.

Savage Opress: And yet you survived.

Darth Maul: Of course I survived.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Revenge

Even cartoons get quite serious.

We’re all survivors. Each of us has a story to tell – stories that could be quite unimaginable to other people. I believe we’ve all been like Darth Maul at some point in our lives, and let’s admit we’ve once dreamed of getting rid of the world for being too hard on us. Despite his villainous glory, Darth Maul is nonetheless a good role model for those who might be thinking they can no longer tread the dark path they’re taking. One of the universe’ most dreaded antagonist survived, so should you.

I bet there are also those who love villains more because they possess of more of reality and natural human tendencies compared to the stereotypical heroes. I guess that’s enough proof that villains aren’t that bad after all. Fandoms dedicated to stories’ main antagonists are increasing as we speak, and the fans aren’t afraid to show their love and appreciation through cosplayswall arts and decors, the list goes on. Let’s just hold these bad guys accountable for giving us the most exciting movies we deserve!
