The Influence of Daily Research and Writing on Your IQ

Do you know that conducting research and writing on daily basis can improve both your writing skills and IQ? Contrary to a common belief that intelligence is completely genetic-based, new studies show that the environment has a significant influence on IQ. For instance, a new study by researchers at the University of Virginia shows that intelligence is as a result of nature and nurture.

According to the study, children that read stories with their parents at night, for instance, have better intelligence. The study compared cognitive ability, which is measured by IQ, of 436 Swedish brothers. One brother was raised by the biological parents while the other was adopted. The IQs of the brothers was measured from the age 18 to 20 years. The study established that the IQs of the adopted brothers were 4.4 points higher than those of their siblings. That’s because the adopted children were raised by wealthy and educated parents who exposed them to reading and writing among other activities that improve IQ.

Acquisition of new skills

Engaging in research paper writing on daily basis is a sure way to acquire new skills. That’s because as you conduct research, you read and write about new topics, latest news, and information. This makes you more open minded. It also enables you to learn new strategies and hone your talent. Research and writing have scientifically been proven effective in enabling students to learn new things and develop their brains. Perhaps, this can be attributed to the fact that these tasks require students to adapt to new challenges while handling different tasks. Naturally, this requires them to develop new skills.

Learning by doing

Studies have shown that different brain parts are usually activated when a person reads letters that have been learnt by writing. When writing, the involved movements leave a motor memory within the brain’s sensorimotor part and this enhances recognition. As such, scientists suggest that reading and writing enhances IQ by improving memory. Since when you write by hand you take longer than when you type on a keyboard, scientists suggest that handwriting influences IQ more than typing on a computer keyboard.

Scientists use the term ‘haptic’ to refer to the process of communicating a touch to the brain, especially a finger touch. And, haptics includes perceptions that relate passively to the environment or surrounding and when a person acts or moves.

Enhancing linguistic intelligence

Intelligence entails knowing the environment or the world. We learn, perform, remember, and understand in various ways via a distinctive combination known as intelligence profile. This profile comprises of different ways of understanding the world. Linguistic intelligence is one of these ways and it includes the development of skills that are required to read and write. When you conduct research and write on daily basis, you improve these skills and therefore enhance your linguistic intelligence. For instance, mathematical intelligence or analysis entails solving logical puzzles, thinking scientifically, and computing numbers. This is combined with linguistic intelligence in solving math word problems.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Research paper writing is a process that entails interaction with the world and different sources of information in varied ways. For instance, when writing a research paper, you read other papers that address different issues. You also use physical objects like books, pens, keyboard, or computer to perform tasks that are involved in the writing process. This collaboration influences your brain and body. It affects how you think or respond to things both consciously and subconsciously. As such, daily research and writing influence your IQ through the use of different objects or technologies in varying ways. And, how the interfaces of different technologies that are involved in writing a research paper influence your IQ is reflected on your experience.

Generally, the scientists’ community has conducted numerous studies to show the impact of different forms of stimulation on IQ and brain development. Research and writing is a form of stimulation to the brain. And when a person engages in research and writing on daily basis, their IQ is affected positively. Some form of writing, for instance, guide the human brain in recognizing, constructing, and extending patterns. Additionally, writing can illuminate the sequential procedures that are required to learn in science and mathematics. Prior knowledge can also be activated and linked to the new knowledge that is acquired through research. Studies show that all these activities have a positive influence on IQ.
