6 Tips to an Improved Mobile Photography

Anyone can take out their phone and take a quick snapshot with it. But does it make him/her something out of the ordinary?

No, it doesn’t. It takes a skilled photographer to capture a truly unique image through a mobile device. Yes, it’s not a DSLR; it’s just a simple mobile device but that doesn’t mean that you can’t put its camera to good use. Here are a few mobile photography tips that can come in handy for you.

1. Ensure that the lens is clean enough

Most phones spend a whole lot of time in pockets, bags or simply in hands. As a result, they get dirty with time which is pretty obvious enough; isn’t it? Dirt, grime, and dust build up on the lens which results in a poor image output.

If the lens glass is covered in dirt and grime, there’s no point in taking a photograph with it. That’s because it will result in leaving smudges or dust spots all over your picture. A clean lens will at least ensure the fact that you get a clear and sharp image from your mobile phone.

2. DO NOT use the digital zoom of your mobile camera

The advice is to get close to your subject but make sure that you don’t use the digital zoom option of your mobile camera to zoom into your subject.

If you use the digital zoom option in your photos, it will result in a significant decrease in the quality of your photos. Your photo’s going to get more pixelated at the same time which will definitely not look nice from the photographic point of view.

So the advice is simple: do not use the zoom. Get as close to the subject as possible and as soon as you do that, take the photograph without further ado.

3. Always use the highest resolution supported by your camera phone

Clarity and resolution are directly proportional to one another. The higher the resolution, the greater is the clarity of a picture.

Many phones actually give you the option to choose your resolution. Go for the highest option offered by these phones. This is almost a no-brainer; isn’t it?

4. Reduce camera shake

One of the primary issues of mobile photography is the involvement of a significant amount of camera shake. If you want to exceptional photographs with it, you have to reduce your camera shake as much a possible.

There are a few ways:

  • While taking a photograph, make sure that you hold the phone with both hands. DO NOT hold it with a single hand because that’s bound to cause a bit of shake for sure.
  • Use slow shutter speed. That will make sure that your phone camera gets in more line at the time of the shoot. The only way to do that is to reduce camera shake in general.
  • Use a tripod for extra support. Several phone-based tripods are available in the market. Use them to your benefits. Take the shot through the use of an automatic shutter (say, by putting on the timer to 3 seconds). That’s going to benefit you more.

5. Take the shot from different angles

You don’t always have to take your shots from a standing position. Remember that if you want to take a unique photo of your subject, you have to experiment a bit more and shoot from a few other angles.
different angles
You can try shooting from a higher angle to give your photo a bird’s eye point of view effect. Or you can shoot from close to the ground. Whatever it is, the point is that you have to do something different to give your photographs that feeling of uniqueness you craved for in the past.

6. Avoid cluttered backgrounds

Cluttered backgrounds are distracting indeed. Most of these c=distracting objects in the background can actually take your attention away from the intended subject of your photograph. Hence, it’s advisable to avoid taking the snapshot in a cluttered background.

Tip: You can actually convert your photo to a black and white image in case you have one shot in a distracting environment. That’ll make it less distracting from the audience point of view.

So that’s it then. Hope these tips come in handy for you. Ciao!

Clip on camera lenses can improve the quality of your snapshots; there’s no doubt about it. But do remember that they don’t come cheap in any way. Such an accessory is quite pricey and hence, it’s always necessary to go through a thorough review of the piece on trusted gadget sites.
