The Positive Impacts of Cloud Computing on Education

With the advent of technology, much of the world is changing for the better. Average procedures and tasks are being optimized with the introduction of new systems that speed up general assignments. A great innovation is the online storage format, commonly known as the cloud. Not only does this cloud make storing documents, photos and music faster, but, as of recently, also more secure. The cloud storage is a tool that is being introduced virtually everywhere around the World. From governments and businesses to education, the cloud is a tool that is changing the way we work and study.

Before getting into the question of how the cloud technology is affecting the existing education system and its current methodologies, it is important to note the following two things: Firstly, since its introduction, the cloud technology has created an entirely new profession (non-existent up to that point) and has, consequently, also generated a new field of study. Secondly, due to the technology’s rapid growth and development, it has positively influenced the evaluation and accreditation of online courses and certifications in general. Many of the online courses that would have been ignored in the past, or simply not accepted, today have equally as much value as the traditional degrees. More people than ever have taken on online cloud training programmes like those offered by CloudAcademy, as more and more companies are starting to fully understand the potential and value of knowing how to work with the cloud, and discovering its various functions and implementations.

As for the field of education, many great improvements have come since the introduction of the cloud. The cloud allows for online storage of study materials for both students and teachers, which in turn radically increases the speed of communication between the two. Being able to share documents during one’s study is important, and it taking less than 5 minutes, in a life of an average modern-day student, could make a huge difference. Apart from improving the communication between the two parties, having an online storage also adds to the overall improvement in education.

The sharing factor is indeed a great one, but there are many other benefits that stem from this partnership between the cloud and education. An example is that of textbook costs – something that has over the past years proved to negatively effect overall American education – decreasing dramatically thanks to the online PDF version availability and being able to save this document to the cloud. Both the teachers and the students can access it, making the need for backpacks less important by the day and the potential future of bringing only the laptop and/or tablet to university increasingly realistic.

This advancement resulting in being able to save things to one’s personal cloud carries, even more, value for the teachers who, thanks to the technology, no longer have to carry around homework or assignments (or worry about spilling coffee on them during the grading procedure). The cloud, and the idea of teachers saving their course materials on it allows them to access those materials, as well as to share them with the students, in the moments they enter the class or on the night before.

The cloud allows for a safe access from anywhere at any time, meaning that if your student stays home sick, he/she will still be able to regularly keep up with the class material. The cloud is very resourceful, and once it’s been tried out, going back to manual storage starts making significantly less sense. Not because of the idea that everything must be replaced by technological advancements, but because having a secure online storage that you can access anywhere, at any time, will definitely make studying/teaching/living, easier.
