Review of Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet – Make Learning Fun for Kids

If you’re a parent or a teacher, you’d know how difficult it is to get kids to sit still and concentrate on a certain topic for more than five minutes. With their overactive minds, kids tend to easily switch their focus from one topic to another. One minute they’re talking about a superhero; the next, they’re talking about sharks and tigers. This means you’re probably struggling to get them to learn something – not because they’re incapable, but because of that highly active mind. The Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet app has been designed to tackle that exact issue and is godsend especially for busy parents.

Interactive app features improve alphabet learning experience for kids

According to a Nielsen study, 70% of tablet-owning households have children under 12 making use of the device. Some people assume that kids using devices like mobile phones and tablets could be detrimental for their learning. Many consider mobile games to be a distraction from actual schoolwork. The fact of the matter is that educational games and apps could be more beneficial than you think.

A study conducted by a joint venture between Sesame Workshop India and Qualcomm Wireless Reach even proved this. Kids exposed to the game showed a 1.5 times improvement in imagination and word knowledge scores. Some even gained better comprehension skills. This goes to show that games designed to be educational can be more beneficial than harmful for children. Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet makes use of this fact and offers interactive and fun features in two different modes:

  • Learning Mode – In the Learning Mode of this alphabet game, kids can learn how to form and pronounce different letters of the alphabet. They get to select a letter and then begin a mini game designed for that specific letter. For each letter, there are four words with an audio playback telling them exactly how that letter should sound. While many similar apps have robotic-sounding voices in the audio playback, the voice in this app sounds natural. It is clear and also easy to understand.
  • Practice Mode – A more advanced mode, the Practice Mode comes with features like Letter Identification. Here, the app gives an audio playback of a certain letter and children have to select the right letter out of three options. It also has a Spelling feature, in which kids have to form meaningful words out of scrambled letters.

With the Writing feature, kids can learn how to write different letters of the alphabet with an outline and a number sequence to guide them on forming the letter. Different vehicles like ships, cars, and helicopters are given for tracing the number sequence. So it looks as if they’re traveling from one place to another. Perhaps this is among the most useful in-app features within Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet.

Bottom line

An educational app won’t be complete without a reward system and this particular app fulfills the need by rewarding players with fun stickers after completing different games. They can then collect these stickers and store them in their digital sticker book. All in all, Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet is fun, interactive, and educational. It provides kids with a comprehensive alphabet learning experience from kindergarteners to preschoolers. The interface is colorful; the music upbeat and fun.

There’s one major drawback of this app, which is the prevalence of pop-up ads. At the same time, there is also an option to upgrade to a paid version, which is free of such ads. So Alphabet Games: Learn Alphabet is highly recommended for busy parents, teachers, etc. to boost their kids’ learning experience.
