5 Quick Tips To Increase Customers’ Time On Your Site

Drawing people to your website can a rather frustrating experience. Especially when no matter how many links you put out there, and how many people you tell, you are still only getting a handful of visitors. Even those visitors only stay for a few seconds. Well, this is something that website owners have struggled with since the dawn of the internet. Yet there is viral content. People do get a flood of traffic on their page. So what are they doing differently? What principles can you learn from them to apply to your page?

1 – Content

Give the user something that they enjoy reading. While your particular area of expertise is certainly interesting, it will not necessarily keep a continuous flow of traffic or keep people on your site. They will only be on your site when they need some information about a topic of limited scope. Expand the scope. Give them a lot of how-to articles, lifehacks, or do-it-yourself posts. If you are trying to attract people from a certain demographic, make a list article of “10 reasons you know you are from this town.” This will inspire them to continue browsing your page to see what else you have. Give them content so your relationship will transcend the sphere of business.

2 – Long articles

Sometimes people think that websites need to have short articles because everybody has a short attention span. But many experts regard this as a myth. Readers are often interested in technical articles. There are enough articles out there that only engage with surface points and soundbites, and too few that really dive deeply into the intricacies of a particular topic. Vicaps (www.vicaps.com) regularly demonstrates their expertise, expounding upon topics thoroughly and they still draw traffic. People will read long articles if the information is valuable to them.

3 – A good mobile site

Though often neglected, the mobile site is a very important feature. The desktop site often does not translate nearly as well to the mobile phone. That is why sites like Facebook have a very different and more compact layout on their mobile site. This is something that is important to people because of how many people who browse using a mobile device. The mobile device is often the primary browsing tool for many users. 46% of users report difficult navigation on mobile sites. If a mobile site is difficult to use, people will be too frustrated to browse the site.

4 – Fast load time

Just think for a moment about how you use websites. If you come across a page and it is taking awhile to load, you are going to assess if the information on this page is really worth the time it takes for it to load. If you stay on the site, you will have to deal with difficult scrolling and navigating between pages. It is just not worth the effort. You are not alone in thinking this. The change in a website’s bounce rate increased by 100% when it took more than 4 seconds to load.

5 – Newsworthy updates

Customers who browse your website are there because they care about the industry and the sort of content that you are producing. This means that if something happens in the world that is related to the industry, you should share it with your audience. They want to know what is going on. For example, the website www.ChemDry.com, posted a story about how the ChemDry owner Andrew Lumish recently gained popularity for cleaning the tombstones of fallen veterans in honor of them.

New website owners should not be discouraged because they cannot gain traffic or get people to stay on their website. It should inspire them to apply some of the methods that have worked for people in the past. Show your audience that you have something to offer.
