7 New Technologies that Will Change Everything

While the 20th Century saw a slower growth in the technological breakthroughs and scientific findings that changed history, the 21st century is all set to go one step further.

The last decade was offered with iTunes that turned the music industry on its head. Plus, the emergence of smartphones such as the iPhone and BlackBerry along with the social media revolution has completely renovated the way we communicate.

So, what will be next? Investigations and researchers have discovered some new technologies that could bring a significant stir.

Let us take you to the glimpse of future…..

SB 3.0 to Speed Up Performance on External Devices

With more than 2 billion USB-connected devices sold till date, the USB connector is proven as one of the greatest successful invention. But in this Terabyte age of hard drives, the once-cool throughput of 480 megabits/ second that a USB 2.0 device can offer just doesn’t cut it any longer.

But, USB 3.0  is designed to raise the efficiency by a factor of 10, enhancing the maximum throughput of the connector up to 4.8 gigabits per second. USB 3.0 devices uses a varying connector and are predicted to be backward-compatible with present USB plugs, and vice versa. Also, it is expected to augment the power efficiency of USB devices along with the increasing the juice available to them. This will offer faster charging for your iPod and probably even more peculiar USB-connected gear like the toy rocket launchers and beverage coolers that have been hanging on the people’s desks.

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS)

MEMS is a miniaturized mechanical and electro-mechanical technology. The MEM Systems consist of micro-computers with small mechanical devices such as pumps, valves, gears and actuators, somewhat similar to a mini robot.

Numerous possible applications are there for MEMS including biotechnology, medicine, communications, etc. As a breakthrough technology, many new MEMS applications are yet to come, increasing beyond those currently identified.

3-D Printing

3-D printing that involves creating three-dimensional solid objects from digital model is collecting momentum greatly. 3-D Printers that once cost $30,000 today are costing about $3,000 with the capabilities to reframe the global manufacturing rules.

3-D is said to be a huge technology that will disturb the traditional manufacturing process. The global market for 3-D printing estimated about $1.7 billion in 2011 and is expected to hit $6.5 billion by 2019, according to research firm Wohlers Associates.

Software Defined Networking (SDN)

Based on the use of software in order to simplify computer networks, Software-defined networking (SDN) is anticipated to be a significant and necessary game-changer in network architecture.

The global SDN market for the businesses and cloud service providers is predicted to increase from $360 million this year to $3.7 billion by 2016, as per the calculations of IDC. Prominent consumers include Google, Verizon, Facebook, and Deutsche Telekom, which plans a rapid rise in the SDN deployment off a small base over the next three to five years.

Startups such as Big Switch, Embrane, Plumgrid and Vyatta are all ready to share this burst of revenue and gain with giant network vendors that include Cisco, Alcatel Lucent, Juniper, IBM, HP and Dell.

Personalized Medicine

Genomics – the study of human genes and functions is all set to have an impact along with a new model – personalized medicine. It’s a model that proposes tailoring health care for the patient and has mass potential.

Although the understanding of genomic data and its correlation with health care is still at an introductory stage, current uses in cancer genetics, companion diagnostics and non-invasive pre-natal testing are already representing the positive prospects of sequencing technology. In addition, the cost of sequencing a human genome was $100 million in 2001, however it is $10,000 now, according to Citi.

Wireless Power Transmission

Nikola Tesla always fantasized a world studded with enormous Tesla coils and since then Wireless power transmission has been a dream for the entire world. However, beside the advances in recharging electric toothbrushes, it has so far proved unsuccessful in making advantageous inroads into consumer-level gear.

Intel researchers unveiled a method–based on MIT research about throwing electricity at a few feet distance wirelessly and without any risks to bystanders. Intel calls this science a wireless resonant energy link  that is implemented by transmitting specific 10-MHz signals through a coil of wire; and a similar close coil of wire resonates in tune with the frequency, which causes the electrons to flow through that coil too. Although the design is simple, it is capable of lighting up a 60-watt bulb with 70 percent efficiency.

Parallella

Parallella is a supercomputer for all and is expected to change the way computers are designed. Parallella is, in general, an energy-efficient computer designed for processing complex software effectively and simultaneously. With Parallella, it is expected that real-time object tracking, speech recognition, holographic heads-up display will become even stronger and smarter. Luckily, it has already been launched in the global market.

The world has seen great leaps in technology in last five years. Smartphones, multi-touch, cloud computing, etc. are such innovations that have revolutionized the way we live. However, this was just the beginning. The aforementioned technologies, believe it or not, will bring an extreme turnover in technology. In the future, we could live the way people in science fiction movies did.
