5 Grievous Blogging Mistakes to Avoid

blogging 101

There are millions of blogs out there covering almost every topic imaginable. Therefore, knowing how to create a blog is not enough. You need to find a way of making it stand out from the competition so as to attract traffic and maintain an audience. Here are some of the common mistakes bloggers need to steer clear of:

  1. Covering too many subjects

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a blogger is to try to cover a wide range of subjects. In an attempt to reach as many people as possible, many bloggers decide to write on diverse topics. The problem with this approach is that some of your audience might lose interest since some topics don’t appeal to them. It would therefore be more advisable to focus on a smaller and valuable niche. For instance, if you want to blog about banking, you could choose to focus on the mortgage market. This will allow you to capture the attention an audience specifically interested in that topic.

  1. Failing to understand your audience

When you blog, you should not write for yourself but for your audience. This means that you need to take time to understand who they are. If you don’t, you might leave out the right information or provide the wrong information. As a result, you content might end up being too basic or too complex for your audience. Therefore, before you begin blogging, ask yourself the following questions; What are their interests? What problems are they dealing with? What do they already know about the subject? Which other blogs are they visiting?

  1. Being inconsistent

Inconsistency in terms of publication frequency and quality is a mistake that should be avoided at all costs. However, this does not necessarily mean that you must publish a post every day. Simply create a publishing schedule and stick to it, whether it is daily or twice a week. This will give your audience something to look forward to. While maintaining your schedule, you need to ensure that the quality of your posts is consistent. Take enough time to research, write and edit your material. If you don’t have the time, you could consider hiring a professional content creator to do the work for you.

  1. Writing poor headlines

The first thing readers see in your posts is the headline. If your headlines are not compelling enough, most of your visitors might not want to read the content. Therefore, you need to craft killer headlines which creatively describe the content of your posts. For instance, instead of simply having a headline such as ‘Weight Loss Tips’, you could change it to ‘Lose Weight in 6 Weeks with These Amazing Tips’. The second headline is likely to generate more interest.

  1. Being a one-man show

Many bloggers try to create all the content on their blogs by themselves. As a result, they are likely to run out of ideas or miss their publishing schedules. While it is possible to run a blog as a one-man show, it would be advisable to involve others. One great way of doing this is by inviting other bloggers to contribute guest posts. Guest blogging allows fresh ideas to be injected into your blog. In addition, you could run a poll and ask your audience for feedback on specific topics. Their responses could be compiled to create new blog posts.

    HI Charles

I just loved reading your articles. 😀

The best thing which I really like about your articles is, you covers each and every thing in your articles which makes your article more helpful.

I have seen people love to read those articles more which are easy to understand and can help a lot. And you always write such kind of articles.

I would also like to suggest you one thing.

You should try to keep your paragraphs short so that people can’t scare before reading that paragraphs.

Short and cute paragraphs increase interest of the reader to read the complete article.

I hope you wouldn’t mind my suggestion. 😀

Either way, Thanks for this wonderful article. 😀
