The Tata Safari Storme is one of the popular vehicles from the Tata Motors Limited. The Safari Storme is the modified version of the SUV Tata Safari launched originally in 1990. After many facelifts of the Safari the TML has decided to refurbish the Safari entirely. During the 2012 Indian auto expo the new model named the Safari Storme was unveiled. In October 2012, the SUV was launched in 5 diesel variants with one all wheel drive version priced Rupees 9.94 to 13.71 lakh. The Explorer edition was discontinued in 2013. The four variants are the LX, the EX, the VX and the AWD variant VX 4×4.

Interior

The 7-seater Safari Storme comes in colours of Sardinia red, pearl white, arctic white, arctic silver, urban bronze, astern black and pearl champagne. The Storme is built on Aria’s X2 platform. Though the Storme is similar to the old Safari in looks the design details indicate the involvement of the Land Rover. The masculine front fascia has a new grille, round projector type headlamps, round fog lamps, bonnet with a slope line and a toughened laminated wind screen. The other features on the body include body coloured door handles, wider side steps, better wheel arches, roof rails and high mounted stop lamps. For higher trims there are electrical ORVMs, a rear spoiler and rear fog lamps.

Features

The standard features of the Storme are a manual AC, power windows, hydraulic power steering, ABS, EBD, an engine immobiliser, central and child lock facilities, a fully foldable rear seat and electric body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators. The VX 4×4 variant has 2 airbags, power and tilt steering, leather seats a rear wiper and electric ORVMs with turn indicators. There is no music system in the Safari Storme. The Storme has a 2179 cc, 138 bhp, 320 NM torque engine giving a mileage of 14.0 kmpl (13.2 kmpl for all wheel drive variant). The Storme accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 15 seconds and the top speed is 165 kmph.

Specs

The dimensions of the Storme are 4655 mm length, 2650 mm wheel base and 200 mm ground clearance. The suspension is independent double wishbone type with coil springs over shock absorbers at the front and 5 link suspension with coil springs at the rear. Brakes are disc type at both the ends and the tyres are of 16” size.

Final Words

The Safari Storme is one of the best off-roading Indian vehicles with adequate safety features. Old styling, poor acceleration, higher prices and poor mileages are the weak points of the vehicle. The competition for the Storme comes from the SUVs like the Mahindra XUV500, the Mahindra Scorpio and the Renault Duster.
