ShareIt: File Transfer 60x Faster than Bluetooth

Since the inception of Bluetooth Technology, mobile users’ obsession with the latter’s ubiquitous file-sharing medium has never seized. For starters, Bluetooth is an indelible mark in the era of wireless connectivity. While infrared started the fad way back, it was Bluetooth that achieved Herculean success due to its speed and capacity of sending different types of multimedia files. When more sophisticated cellular devices hit the market, it is no wonder that the Bluetooth feature was still carried over by every mobile manufacturer that there is.

However, it seems that the good old days of our old pal is over because a new innovation, an app called ShareIt by Lenovo, has hit the market. ShareIt claims to be the fastest way to transfer photos, videos, documents, contacts, and even mobile apps to other smartphones. In addition, what sets it apart from existing file transfer methods like Bluetooth or Apple’s iCloud is that it has eliminated the need for network connection or Wi-Fi.

Here are the features of the app:

  • Allows multi-format sharing across device and supports app-transfer (for Android only);
  • Automatically find devices that are in range (No need for pairing);
  • 60x faster transfer rate than Bluetooth;
  • No need for active connections or Bluetooth. The app creates a dedicated local hotspot to host file sharing;
  • Even the app itself can be shared to other smartphones.

Upon reading the specs of the said app, I was vehemently impressed. I decided to try it out for myself on my Sony Xperia T2 Ultra.

First attempt: 305 MB WMV file (Duration: 40 s)

I tried to transfer a video clip to my Nexus 7 Tab. One thing I noticed is that, unlike Bluetooth, ShareIt is more stable and not prone to lags and transfer interruptions.

Second attempt: 500 MB zip file (Duration: 30 s)

I decided to try my luck with a larger zip file with lots of sub folders within. It came out as swift as the first of course!

Third attempt: 1.7 GB HD Movie (Duration: 1 minute 2 s)

Wow, that was quick! Normally, that would take 5-10 minutes for an average Bluetooth file transfer – I wasn’t expecting the speed at all.

Truth be told, I couldn’t believe my eyes to what I was seeing – the speed and stability have really exceeded my expectation. In my opinion, ShareIt is definitely a must-have for all multimedia junkies out there. Sharing files has never been this lightning fast; the app speaks for itself!
