How to Get the Most Out of Your Smartphone

With the news of the iPhone 6 and the Android One both set to hit the shelves this September, we can often feel spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a new smartphone.

However, when making our choices, it’s important to consider just what we’ll be using the phone for, whether it’s photography, gaming, social media or even online shopping. Next time you’re looking for an upgrade, have a few of these favourites in mind before you commit to anything.

Best for: photography

In today’s selfie-obsessed culture, a reliable camera is almost integral to any worthwhile smartphone. Android-based Nokia are a big contender in this field, but winning by the skin of its teeth is the Samsung Galaxy S5, thanks to its hugely advanced features in the field of photography. The Samsung Galaxy S5 features ‘High Dynamic Range’ camera equipment, which can be found in most of today’s professional cameras, giving shooters life-like colours regardless of the lighting available. The phone also has an image sensor, taking shots at different exposure levels and combining them to make one flawless image – perfect if you love a selfie.

Best for: gaming

While it’s rumoured that the iPhone 6 will promised a revolutionary mobile gaming experience, for the time being we’ll have to make do with what we’ve got. Thankfully, the market is already full of hugely powerful devices, and this time round, it’s another Samsung which stands head and shoulders above the rest. Popular gaming sites like Uptown Aces are now more demanding than ever with their graphics and loading times, but this is now match for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It features a powerful Snapdragon 800 chip with 3GB RAM, giving users the chance to multi-task. A further 32GB of storage is also perfect for storing hours of play.

Best for: social media

Smartphones have totally changed the way we access our news, and social media has a huge part to play in this. If you desperately need to keep your finger on the pulse, you can’t go wrong with the HTC One. The phone has an ultrapixel camera which is great for taking snaps in low light, but more importantly, its Android interface aggregates all your social media and news feeds into one place. So whether you’re an obsessive Tweeter or live on Facebook, you’ll never miss a trick.
