New Smartphone Technology To Watch Out For

As smartphones become a daily necessity for everyone’s lives, the technology of smartphones continues to advance along with the progression of modern society. When smartphones first came out a few years ago, the mere feature of connecting with the internet through your smartphone was fascinating enough for the general public. However, in the year 2014, there are new smartphone features and technologies to look out for:

Self-destructing technology

Recently Boeing developed the Boeing Black Smartphone, which is specifically designed for government agencies and contractors who highly value secure data and safe communication. If the smartphone senses that it was opened or tampered with by an unknown third party, it would self-destruct by deleting all the data and making the device inoperable. While the software runs on an Android operating system, the hardware ensures maximum security and encryption through its key features such as Hardware Crypto Engine and Hardware Root of Trust.

Top notch quality

The makers of Blackphone aim to give privacy back to the people – in a world of digital communication where all sorts of private tasks are performed on the smartphone, this increases the dangers and risks of hackers infiltrating the system and leaking confidential information to the public. However, with Blackphone users can browse on their smartphones safely and securely with PrivatOS, an Android-based operating system that ensures anonymous search and privacy-enabled app usage.

Foldable into different shapes and sizes

Developed by Belgian researchers from Hasselt University iMinds, ‘Paddle’ is a prototype phone that can be folded into different shapes and sizes. The concept is derived from the principles of the 3-D Rubik’s cube, where the particular smartphone can be folded into a phone, a tablet and even an armband. With smart watches becoming the new trend in wearable tech this year, the ability of folding a smartphone into an armband would definitely be the selling point of Paddle. Although this prototype is still in its developmental stages, there are rumours that Samsung will be launching a foldable smartphone in the near future.
