The great news is that you actually already have the tools on how to care for your laptop. There is no need for lavish machinery and procedures to give your laptop the attention it needs. Moreover, it really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how to give TLC to your laptop.

Here are some tips on how to properly give your laptop the care it deserves:

  • Food and drink (or any liquids for that matter) should be kept away from the laptop at all cost. When you spill something on your laptop or even near it, the liquid may seep into the components inside the machine. Not only will this cause short circuits that may destroy the internal parts of the laptop, this may also cause some parts to explode and cause electrical injury to anyone close to it. Liquids should be nowhere near the laptop, not even on the same desk, as the desk may move or be bumped into, causing the container of the liquid to spill.
  • As for food, crumbs may get into the insides of the laptop’s keyboard. This will only invite bugs and small insects to get into the keyboard and possibly nibble into the wires. Crumbs may also irritate some of the circuitry of the laptop. The laptop will just look sloppy will soiled finger stains and crumbs on it.
  • Make sure that there are no objects on top of the keyboard before you shut it. If there is a pencil or earphones on top of the keyboard and you shut the laptop, the screen might get scratched, or worse there may be cracks.
  • Don’t overcharge your laptop. If you have it plugged into a wall socket or using a USB 3.0 docking station, remove the battery. When charging the battery, it is recommended that you don’€™t use the laptop. Using a 100% charged battery and plugging the machine will make the battery bloat, and it will conk out after a couple of years, tops.
  • Lastly, a common mistake that laptop user commit is holding the laptop on top of the screen when the unit is open. Hold it on the base, as holding it on top may cause the hinges that attach the screen to the body of the laptop to loosen, or worse, give, causing the laptop to crack or split.
