How To Design An eCommerce Website For A Successful Online Business

design website

The advent of the internet changed almost every aspect of life. Be it personal or professional. People are connecting with each other with the help of online platforms, primarily social media websites. Besides, businesses are looking to enhance their prospects by creating an online presence. They are going a step further by taking their shops online as well. Indeed, a lot of companies are creating their online presence through ecommerce websites which are gaining extreme popularity among the customers and are contributing to a large share of their businesses. However, if you are planning to take your business online through an ecommerce website, you need to keep in mind a few things about how you should go about designing it.

Make Navigation User-Friendly

One of the most important things that you need to remember is that the primary aim of your website will be to ensure that the goods provided there are sold on a regular basis. For this, you need not make your website aesthetically wonderful. Instead, it will be more important for you to ensure that users are able to move around the website. Thus, user-friendly navigation can help your site emerge as a successful one in terms of business. It has been noticed that the bounce rate of an ecommerce website reduces once its navigations are made more user friendly. Therefore, make the search box of your website visible and accessible from almost all pages. Make sure that the design is simple as this will ensure that your customers will not  be lost.

Include Complicated Filters

It is quite common for any website to provide customers with excellent options for filters. While providing these filters, you should try to include as many parameters as possible. This will add as a booster to your business, as they will cater to the requirements of even the most discerning customers. Customers will also have the freedom to choose any object they want and that too, through the easiest possible manner. For example, they can easily shortlist the objects of their choice through these filters and consequently purchase them. The more complicated the filters are, the more easily the users will be able to use the website.

Add An About Us Page To Highlight Your USPs

There are millions of ecommerce websites on the internet. Numerous visitors go through them on a regular basis. Thus, why should a customer choose your ecommerce website among so many options? Ask yourself, what unique thing do you offer to your customers? Therefore, apart from designing the website in the most unique way, you should also add an About Us page. This will help you highlight the USPs of your website and make customers interested in your website. This, in turn, will increase traffic and result in more conversions.

Include High Resolution Images Of Products

When a customer is planning to purchase products from your website, they would like to have a proper look at the object they are buying. Hence, it is extremely important to include images of products on your website. However, there is no use in including small images which do not reveal the details of the products properly. In fact, it is essential to upload high resolution images of different products. This will help potential customers who are interested in your products to have a proper look at it and decide whether they want to buy it or not.

Mention If Products Are Out Of Stock

Let users know at the very beginning if any product is out of stock. No customer would want to select a product, advance with it into the shopping cart, just to find at the end that it is not in stock. This is going to have a negative effect on your website and might result in increased bounce rates. Hence, it is always advisable to mention clearly at the very beginning if any product is out of stock.

Design A Fast Check Out Process

Place the shopping cart in such a way that it is visible when a customer is online, visiting any page on your website. This is going to help them keep a tab on products they have already purchased and the total amount they need to pay. Moreover, the Check Out should be a smooth and fast process. No customer wants to spend a lot of time just before paying for a product.

The tips you mentioned are very useful for ecommerce design. apart from these tips I would say it is also important to create your web design responsive or create seprate mobile version because nowadays many people do shoppigng from their mobile and tablets. If you website is not user friendly than you will lose several potential customers. Furthermore, always think from the user point of view in order to create a good ecommerce website.

Some good tips – particularly the About Us page.

That’s something a lot of eCommerce sites don’t even bother doing at all.

Being an online business doesn’t mean people don’t need to know more about you.

Thanks Mark! Yes, it’s true that About Us is one of the most neglected pages, especially in eCommerce websites. Yet, its importance cannot be undermined. In fact, it plays a major role in building the reputation of the website.
