But nothing is ever so perfect, and with these benefits, are certain issues and problems with cloud hosting. Listed below are some of the risks and realities that come with cloud hosting:

1. Data Security

Security has always been the chief concerns and one of the major issues in cloud hosting. The threat lies simply in the fact that all the computation is done over the internet and that makes vulnerable to threats from attackers. When you look at the present state of technology, almost everything now is done over the internet and so the level of threat is the same as everywhere else. But thankfully for the cloud being a distributed network, the recovery time is minimal.

Thus the best option would be to discuss security policies with the service provider before signing with them and switching to the cloud.

2. Compatibility issues

The cloud has been acknowledged to be economical; however the major problem lies in the fact that in order to switch to the cloud, most organizations have to completely redo their IT infrastructure to be compatible to the cloud. This is a process which is time consuming and will require you to restructure all the data back on the cloud again.

One solution to this problem is to use the hybrid cloud technology, which is optimal for cases like this.

3. Responsibility and compliance

The data stored in the cloud is not done on everyday disks, each organizations has terabytes of private sensitive data stored in the servers. That being said, if the cloud happens to be under repair or develops an issue then the data cannot be accesses by the users, and that might develop in to a serious problem for the organization.

This being a potential issue, it needs to be discussed by the organizations with the service provider as to what happens if and when such an issue arises. The service provider needs make an accord of total accessibility even when the system suffers issues.

4. Data Privacy

Once the organization switches to the cloud, all the sensitive data is handles onto the service provider. This data is the private and sensitive data of the organization and handling all of it to the service provider gives rise to the monitoring issue for the organization and thus poses as a potential risk and the problem increases if the proper processes are not set in place.

This is a major concern for the organization and issue like this could be resolved by using end-to-end monitoring on the cloud.

Conclusion

Nothing is ever so perfect, and neither is the cloud. The fact remains that these new risks can be dealt with efforts done before and after switching to the cloud. Once past these issue, the cloud is sure to be beneficial for the said company.

    Hi Ameera Miller
I always used to think that cloud services are much better and safe place for my private data , Although I don’t have any special kinds of data but you have changed my way of thinking .

You have really called me out to stop sharing some information through cloud hosting. I have liked it too much since 2010 and maybe got obsessed since it has been an easy way to share with my colleagues and partners. I must limit it. Thanks for sharing ~ Anetta

I think we’ve seen these kinds of security breaches with big companies in the recent years. Losses of consumer data, credit card information, etc. is happening pretty often with some companies, and if you aren’t careful and you run a website, it can happen to your users too.
