If you’ve been looking into blogging as a means of generating income, then you’ve likely read all about the importance of choosing a niche for maximum success. While choosing a niche has certainly made many people quite successful in the blogosphere, do you really need to be super-specific in order to make it?
I say no, not necessarily. Niche blogs are great when there are a lot of people interested in topic that has many different aspects to tackle. However, when you get too specific, you’ll quickly find yourself encountering a host of problems that can be difficult or impossible to overcome.
Challenges of Niche Blogging
The main challenge you’re going to run into with a niche blog is running out of things to say rather quickly. For example, if you like blogging about excellent accounting software, you might be tempted to go super-niche and stage a three-part series about a Maxwell Systems construction accounting program.
While the program may be excellent, how many posts do you really think you can get out of it? Moreover, how long do you think you would be able to hold the attention of your target audience if you constantly sound like a sales bite for this one program? Not long â- which leads to the next problem: staying engaging.
It doesn’t matter how interested someone may be in a subject. At a certain point, the same old thing will become boring. You might start out with a respectable following, but as you begin scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas, youâll lose the interest of that following.
Advantages of Going Broader
Yes, your blog needs a specific focus if you want to develop a following. Don,t misunderstand my advice and become overly scattered in topic - you’ll lose readers quickly that way, too. Do, however, be sure that your chosen topic is broad enough to produce interesting, engaging and new content for a long time to come.
Taking this broader approach has the advantage of providing a much wider platform to stand on. It also allows you much more creative freedom as you branch out to all of the possibilities. Moreover, you can create super-fine niche posts within your blog that will allow your blog to appeal to more types of readers than having an overly narrow focus.

Niche blogs are good for a target audience but you need to always have to target and cover large area. If that the case its hard to tackle your audience from niche blogs

Thanks for reading and for the comment, Shalin! Going broad is great, we just need to make sure we’re not too varied and confuse our readers!
