Be Ready For The Apocalypse With These Tough Gadgets

apocalypse

If you’€™ve seen World War Z you will notice two things: That despite the zombie apocalypse, the world still has most of its technology still functioning, and that it made Brad Pitt’€™s life a lot easier. Just count how many times he was on the phone during the movie. Contrary to popular belief, an apocalypse does not have to be a low tech Mad Max affair because there are numerous ways where technology can help you live to see another day. The problem is that most gadgets probably would not survive the initial catastrophe with most of them being a bit averse, to moisture, dust, and shocks. For you to survive the apocalypse, you will need apocalypse-ready equipment. Here is a list of gadgets and how they will come in handy, and an example of its battle-ready version:

A radio

Being informed in an apocalypse is crucial. You will need to know what is going on, or listen to government instructions, or to directions to the nearest evacuation center. A radio is the simplest way to do all that, and there are many survival radios on the market that are lightweight, have multiple sources of power, and serve multiple functions. An example would be the Roberts Terrain radio which comes with a 7 watt speaker, and is both water and shock proof.

A mobile phone

During the apocalypse it might be necessary to communicate with others to find out where your loved ones are, and how they are doing, coordinate a rescue or escape plan, or even call for help. A good phone would be the Samsung Immerse, which is scratch, shock dust and water proof. It can function underwater and even stay submerged for thirty minutes, for the times when hiding or escaping in the water cannot be avoided.

A personal GPS

With food and resources quickly running out, the time will come when you will have to leave your house to find a safer place to stay such as an evacuation shelter. Chances are, this will entail a long journey across unfamiliar territory. In these cases it helps to have a personal GPS device such as the Garmin Oregon, which comes with an altimeter, electronic compass, and is waterproof, to help you find your bearings and choose the best route.

A laptop

A laptop is one of those things that require a little thought. Here is a way to access relevant information on rural and urban survival, to communicating with others using a VoIP service if the phones don’€™t work, and the ability to watch a video, and distract yourself once in a while doesn’t hurt either. The tradeoff is that laptops are quite heavy and don’€™t deal well with extreme situations. You will need A Panasonic ToughBook. Originally designed for the military, the ToughBook comes with a 13 hour battery life and is protected by a magnesium case and a liquid resistant keyboard. It conforms to military specifications and can survive 72″ drops, shocks and vibration, and is resistant to humidity, altitude, rain, dust, sand, temperature extremes and thermal shock.

Portable hard disks and flash drives

You might need to bring important documents and files with you on the road. To keep them safe you will need a tough hard disk or flash drive like the SoloPRO from ioSafe, which is designed to withstand extreme conditions such as temperatures above 850° calcium, and is waterproof, but comes with USB 3.0 connectivity, and has a 3TB capacity.

For every gadget, there is surely a ‘battle’€ version of it. All you have to do is look around and do a little research.

Thank you for the list, but I would say that laptop with sun batteries can be even better, or at least a laptop and a sun battery for any other will still run out of power sooner or later.
