Efficient Ways To Repair Corrupt Outlook PST File

Corruption of Outlook PST file is one of the common problems of Outlook users. Sometimes, it happens when your PST file gets oversized, while other times it occurs when PST gets contaminated by viruses or is subject to improper usage. Whatever is the case, the problem is you are completely unable to access anything stored in your Outlook mailbox. Clearly, the repair of corrupt PST file is one of the ways to restore your data and overcome data loss. Hence, this article will provide some of the most effective methods to do the same and some other alternatives to overcome loss of data.

Resolution 1: Outlook’s Inbox Repair Tool

The tool that is available to Outlook users for repairing their corrupt PST file is known as ‘Inbox Repair Tool’. This software is available in the form of ‘scanpst.exe’ file and is installed with the installation of Outlook at ‘C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXYZ’, where XYZ is the version of Office that you are using. Click on this executable ‘scanpst.exe’ file to start the software. Now, click ‘Browse’ to browse for the location where your corrupt PST file is saved. Go ahead after selecting the file and click ‘Start’ to start its scanning. As soon as the tool completes the scanning, it displays all the errors found in this PST file. Move further and click ‘Repair’ to start the repairing of your PST file. After completion of this process, you will be able to open Outlook and access your PST file.

Resolution 2: Slim Down the Large PST File

The biggest reason for the corruption of Outlook PST files in 2002 and earlier versions is in their crossing the predefined file size limit. As soon as your PST file (of these versions) goes beyond 2GB, it becomes susceptible to corruption. In such situation, you can break the large PST into smaller PST files having sizes below 2GB. Sending all the old emails from main PST to an archive PST file and removing them from this PST file can be a method to break oversized PST. You can manually move the emails from main PST file to some other PSTs for reducing its size. However, this method is not very convenient, as managing multiple PST files with older versions of Outlook is often a difficult task.

Resolution 3: Professional PST Repair Software

If none of the above mentioned methods is able to do the needful for you, then the use of a professional Outlook PST repair software is recommended. Professional PST repair software repairs corrupt or damaged PST file without causing data loss. The simple and intuitive user interface of these tools makes it possible for all Outlook users to perform the repair of their PST file. An efficient PST repair software is able to handle all kinds of PST corruptions and restores almost all types of Outlook objects.

The above-mentioned are the top three ways of repairing corrupt or damaged Outlook PST files and restoring all your lost data. However, you can also select any of these three methods for the recovery of your corrupt PST files.
