6 Apps To Help You Keep Your New Year Resolutions

Only 8% of people who make New Year’s resolutions actually meet their goals. That’s a pretty sad number. It’s even worse when you realize that 75% of people give up within the first week. Well, you may have kept your New Year’s resolution if you would have had an app on your side. Take a look at these 6 apps that make those common, tough-to-keep New Years resolutions easier.

1.    MyFitnessPal — To Eat Better

One of the most common New Years resolutions people make is to lose weight. The MyFitnessPal app can help you keep that resolution by tracking the amount of calories that you eat. The app is easy to use and features a barcode scanner to make inputting meals faster and easier. Plus, there is a database of over 2,000,000 foods that you can add to your record.

It’s important to track your calories when you are trying to lose weight because if you eat too many, you won’t burn enough to see any progress. MyFitnessPal is customized to your individual needs and weight loss goals. There is a quick setup feature that helps you set realistic goals that are attainable. It’s really hard to lose weight if you don’t couple dieting with exercise, so the app lets you keep track of that, too.

2.    iPump & Fitness Builder — To Exercise More

Dieting alone isn’t going to help you lose much weight — you have to exercise, too. Following a fitness plan, however, is really hard if you don’t have the motivation to do it or you don’t have a plan that’s easy to follow. The iPump & Fitness Builder app solves both of these problems. You can use this app to help you achieve your New Years resolution of exercising and losing weight.

The iPump & Fitness Builder app has a large database of exercises that you can pick and choose from to form your individualized workout. There are also drawings or videos for each one to explain how to do the exercise and let you know which muscles are benefitting.

3.    QuitNow! — To Stop Smoking

Cigarette smoking is a bad habitat that comes with serious health risks. That’s why so many people try to quit each year and it is a common New Years resolution. Well, the QuitNow! app can help you successfully curb the addiction and stop smoking once and for all. You can download the app on your Blackberry 10 z on T-mobile lte, and start on your path to freedom today.

The great thing about QuitNow! is that it has real-time information to keep you motivated. For instance, you can see how much money you have saved from not buying cigarettes and also track your progress towards a healthier life. Of course, one of the biggest advantages to using this app is the network of other people trying to quit that offer you moral support. You’re more likely to reach your goals when other people are helping you get there.

4.    Mint.com Finance App — To Spend Less

If your New Year’s resolution is to keep better track of your finances, the Mint.com finance app can help. It lets you look at multiple bank accounts in one place. Plus, depending on which banks you use, you can transfer money from one account to another. There is even a tool that lets you take pictures of checks and deposit the money in the bank account of your choice.

However, the biggest reason to use the Mint.com app is the analytics. It lets you see your spending by category in a pie chart so you can easily understand and adjust your spending. The app will alert you when you go over budget and it will let you know when there are bills you have to pay. Additionally, the Mint.com app is highly customizable so you can change the settings to best meet your needs.

5.    Kindle — To Read More

People who do a lot of reading tend to be smarter than people who don’t. So, if your New Years resolution is to read more, you can attain this goal with the Kindle reading app. It gives you access to thousands of books at an affordable price. There are even some free books to get you started. Of course, Kindle isn’t the only eReader app, you can also try B&N eReader, Stanza, Wattpad, eBooks by Kobo, and others.

When eReaders first came out, people complained that the experience just wasn’t the same as holding an actual book. However, the user experience has changed with reading apps so that you feel like you are still holding a book. For instance, you flip through pages like you would on a book, and the print size is the same. An additional advantage is that the backlit screens on smartphones and tablets let you read in the dark or anywhere you are at. So, use an eReader to start reading more.

6.    Workflowy — To Get Organized

If your New Year’s resolution is to get organized, you can use the Workflowy app to create to-do lists and organize your life. This isn’t just a simple app, you can create complex to do lists that have sub lists. Plus, when you are done with a task, it can be permanently archived for you to refer to at a later time. Seeing that you have accomplished something is a great way to stay motivated and continue your organized life.

Setting goals and working towards them is a good thing because you are trying to improve your life. You can set goals any time of year, but New Year’s resolutions are a great time to get motivated, too. Have you ever used an app to help you keep a New Year’s resolution? What did you use? And, did it help you succeed? Leave a comment.

Hey Naser,Thanks for commenting. I figured April was the perfect time of year, since it\’s around this time that people begin to give up on your resolutions. This is to motivate them and keep them on track for the rest of the year. Thanks for supporting!

I just installed workflowy, it seems perfect for keeping the weekend errands organized. Between the soccer games, and dance lessons, and taking in a ballgame, I can finally find some peace.

Hi Joseph, that was a nice post. You guesses it right, most of our new year resolutions circle around losing weight, quitting bad habits or balancing finances. And you are absolutely correct, most of us give up in the first few days only. But the apps you mentioned are really helpful, and may help people stay focussed.
