How to Recover Files from a Damaged SD Card

Memory cards have been in the market for quite a long time now, and in recent years we have found their many variants as well. One of the popular variants of memory card that is largely used in digital cameras and mobile phones is an SD card. SD is an abbreviation for Secure Digital technology that stores your multimedia files like photos, videos, audios, etc. The large data storage capacity and high data transfer rate make these cards the best storage device for portable electronic devices like digital cameras. However, as we all know that every coin has two sides and the bad side of SD cards is that they are sensitive in nature. Single improper handling of these cards can corrupt them severely and thus can result in inaccessibility of all the stored data.

Let us take a look at one of the most frequent problems of SD cards. Many times when users attach their SD card to their computer or start their camera or mobile phone get the following error notification:

“The drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?”

This notification is generally an error message that is shown when the file system of your SD card gets corrupt. Since corruption causes complete inaccessibility of all data (which includes your photos, videos, and other media files), it is a devastating situation.

So then, you may wonder how your SD card became corrupt. The simple answer is that this situation is most likely to occur when your SD card is infected by viruses. However, if your system is updated with strong anti-virus software and there are no chances of it being contaminated by viruses, the problem may be due to some other reasons. These reasons may vary from pulling the card out of your camera while it is on, using one card in multiple devices, or clicking images when your camera is in a low battery mode.

Now let us go back to the problem once again. As you all know that formatting deletes all the data from the storage media, thus formatting the card can cause severe data loss. Moreover, deciding not to format your SD card results in inaccessibility of all the data stored on your SD card.  However, this problem can be solved and you can easily overcome the loss by using a professional SD card photo recovery tool. Even if you have already formatted the SD card following the error, a photo recovery software can still recover your lost photographs.

Most of these tools are available for Mac and Windows users and they support almost all kinds of memory cards. Thus you can select one according to your computer operating system. The simple user interface of these tools makes them easily usable by all so that they can be easily used by non-technical users.
