How To Optimise Your Business and Blog Page For Facebook Graph Search

facebook graph search

Following the launch of Facebook Graph Search service many business and Website owners are perhaps wondering if there are any search engine optimization (SEO) techniques that could be used to take advantage of the social network’s new search facility. Although there may not actually be a direct ‘SEO’ technique for Graph Search, there could as well be a Graph Search Optimization (GSO) technique as explained by Facebook. In particular, those who want to take full advantage of Facebook Graph Search can make sure their Facebook pages are optimized by taking the following steps.

Complete Your Page

According to Facebook, Graph Search will make it easier for users to discover your Page and learn more about your business. Therefore, Website owners and Bloggers alike should ensure that their Page is complete, up-to-date and regularly maintained.

Use The ‘About’ Section

Facebook also recommends adequate use of the ‘About’ section of your Page. Ensure that the name, category, vanity URL and all the information you share in the ‘About’ section will actually help others find your business with relevant keywords. Furthermore, make use of every opportunity to ask those who like your pages to share with their friends as a mark of its usefulness and popularity.

Location, Location, Location

If you have a location or use a local place Page, you must update your address with current information. This will help you take advantage of location-specific search and ensure that your Page is featured as a result when users are searching for a specific location.

Use Your Fans

Focus on attracting the right fans to your Page and place less emphasy on fake or spam followers. By giving your fans a reason to interact with your content regularly, Graph Search will take more notice of your Page.

Examples Of  Best Graph Search Keywords

According to Facebook, the following queries are examples of what and how users may use Graph Search. Take good note of them and try to apply the keywords you use in your Facebook Page to fit accordingly.

People

  1. “friends who live in my city,”
  2. “people from my hometown who like hiking,”
  3. “friends of friends who have been to Yosemite National Park,”
  4. “software engineers who live in San Francisco and like skiing,”
  5. “people who like things I like,”
  6. “people who like tennis and live nearby”

Photos

  1. “photos I like,”
  2. “photos of my family,”
  3. “photos of my friends before 1999,”
  4. “photos of my friends taken in New York,”
  5. “photos of the Eiffel Tower”

Places

  1. “restaurants in San Francisco,”
  2. “cities visited by my family,”
  3. “Indian restaurants liked by my friends from India,”
  4. “tourist attractions in Italy visited by my friends,”
  5. “restaurants in New York liked by chefs,”
  6. “countries my friends have visited”

Interests

  1. “music my friends like,”
  2. “movies liked by people who like movies I like,”
  3. “languages my friends speak,”
  4. “strategy games played by friends of my friends,”
  5. “movies liked by people who are film directors,”
  6. “books read by CEOs”

Summary

In a nutshell, increase the amount of accurate information on your Facebook page, and use the right keywords when adding content to your page. Furthermore, because Facebook Graph Search takes the current growth of your Page into account, encouraging users to use your Page will help it rank higher in searches.

Facebook’s ‘privacy aware’ Graph Search service allows users to search photos, people, and connections, and find places their friends have recommended. In particular Facebook users will be able to use its new search bar to specifically find ‘My friends’, ‘Photos of my friends’, ‘Restaurants nearby’, ‘Games my friends play’, ‘Music my friends like’, ‘Photos I have liked’, and many more.
