Will Apple’s Fight Hurt iPhone 5 Release?

The Apple and Samsung patent battle has been going on for some time. With the jury just now beginning to deliberate, it will likely be some more time until a decision is made as to whether or not Samsung is guilty of an infringement. This lawsuit continues Apple’s apparent ride to dismantle all of it’s opponents chances of competing with them in the mobile market. With rumors mounting that the iPhone 5 is on the horizon, how will all of this affect the release of the highly anticipated gadget?

Why is this Necessary?

To start, we should look at why Apple is even finding all of these court battles necessary. They already have a stable product and command of the market, not to mention an extremely successful non-mobile market. It is reasonable to think that some consumers might get turned off by this kind of  pushing around in the market. Apple also does have a great reputation for making amazing products, so in the end it might not be an issue at all.

Will This Affect the New iPhone?

As with everything, time will really tell about the success of the new iPhone. There is of course no doubt that the hype around the iPhone is huge, and as with every iPhone release, the next version is immediately pondered upon. This is especially true about the iPhone 5, that was thought to be released instead of the iPhone 4Gs. This was much to the disappointment to many Apple fanatics, and only increased the appetite for the new release.

With all of that said it is likely to think that there will be no substantial hit to Apple when the iPhone is finally released. It is important to realize that the market and some consumers have voiced some displeasure over Apple’s seemingly lack of being satiated with their present valor in the market. Paying attention to customer feedback is important, but I suppose that Apple does know what they’re doing. They have just become the most valuable company in America, and they shouldn’t have too much to worry about when it comes time for their new gadgets. But every other company should think twice before trying to cut into Apple’s market.

Apple is a commercial enterprise and they should be allowed to whatever they can to increase their market share, no matter what slice of the pie they may already have. By “whatever” I mean “whatever legal”, of course, including suing a competitor if they have a reason to believe the competitor hasn’t conducted itself in an entirely lawful or proper manner. And Samsung hasn’t, in my opinion.

And no, I don’t think they’ll be hurt (on the PR front or otherwise). As the author says, they probably “know what they’re doing”.

As for the possibility that “consumers might get turned off by this kind of pushing around in the market” — I really do not think so. The company has too many faithful followers.

Compared to nearly $120 billion worth of cash and investments it has on its balance sheet, the $1.05 billion in damages awarded to the iPhone maker is relatively insignificant. But the real win from the judgment will be that “smartphone vendors experience lengthened product cycles and are forced to alter their software and hardware to ensure unique designs relative to Apple products.”

Thanks for the comment. You\’re right about Apple\’s faithful followers. I don\’t think anything will sway them from getting an Apple product. I was commenting more about those on the fence, maybe not sure about making the switch to an iPhone over another product.Either way, Apple\’s hold on the market will most likely prevail, and it will be interesting to see how the competitors\’ products change.

Such an interesting article, I really like it how you analyze the status quo from this view. I hope that this sticky situation won’t affect the new iphone5 release!

This will affect the new iPhone. They patented things that shouldn’t be patented and I’m wondering how it got approved. Seriously, don’t you think “rounded corners on rectangles” shouldn’t be generic? Then other manufacturers should patent other geometrical shapes too! Apple hates competition because Samsung have great and affordable products.

It’s a very informative blog. Iphone is necessary for everyone on the contrary many people think that on the contrary which is totally a wrong idea. Please keep on doing such a wonderful deed of sharing such information like this.

With Apple winning the patent battle against Samsung, I think Iphone 5 will be under the spotlight. The slightest slip and Apple is going to be facing very harsh criticism. However, Apple is known to produce good products that are high on customer satisfaction. So, I don’t think they will falter and fail to deliver with Iphone 5. However, with the loss of their brilliant leader, the can come under the scanner for the slightest goof-up. What happens, only time will tell!

I think this situation is not going to hurt apple in any way as in my view it is helping Apple to gain it’s popularity again.

Will This Affect the New iPhone? Answer is No. iPhone 5 is proved that that was the most expected mobile phone so far. I’m waiting for the official release in my country.

Hey guys,This patent war is going on for a long time in the view of apple. It has sued all the companies right from the first HTC which used android , followed by motorola and now samsung.
Apple’s main target is Google and these sues all area indirect attack. And in no way it wil hurt iphone 5 other than apple maps getting poor reviews and indeed takes advantage claiming themselves the owner of the technology.

I agree with this article that paying attention to customer feedback is important, but I suppose that Apple does know what they’re doing… They better focus on what the customer had to say.

Apple should focus more on what’s important to them, which is their customers. They should focus on customers rather than fighting over small things.

I think the iPhone 5 was a big dissapointment. I used to be an iphone user but I switched to Android and I doubt I’ll ever go back. Even with phone unlocking becoming illegal, android still 3 times the flexibility of iOS. Plus I get free 4G wifi hotspot functionality with android. Match that steve jobs. Oh wait….

They need to be more focus on doing additional features for the next iphone to released or else people won’t buy the device again and lost to their competitor.
