Top 5 Features To Look For In A Smartphone

Smartphones have taken the entire world by storm. Not only have they led to dwindling sales of the lesser phones in the market, they have also revolutionized the whole mobiling experience. However since there are all kinds of smartphones in the market these days – Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Bada and iPhone, the question which arises in most people’s mind is which smartphone to choose when they decide to buy one.

If you are looking to buy a smartphone, here’s a guide that will help you decide which one to go for:

1. Operating System

The first thing you would need to do is identify the operating system you want to go for. Once you are able to lock in on a particular OS, your choices will narrow down and it will become easier for you to select a smartphone based on the other important factors that we will discuss ahead.

If you are used to working on your PC and do not want to let go of that experience, then you can go for the Windows-based phones that will offer you the power of mobile computing. However if you want an OS that can be customized as per your needs and also lets you enjoy thousands of exciting apps, then you should go for Android, which is the most preferred choice of users these days.

2. Processing Power

Processing power is one of the most important things to look for in a smartphone, since it affects the performance of the smartphone in general. If you want a really good processing output and slag-free mobiling experience, then you shouldn’t go for anything less than 1Ghz or 800Mhz of processor.

There are many smartphones that come with 1Ghz processor and yet are available for affordable prices. Though you can compromise on some other features, you should never compromise on the processor, so always choose the best one you can afford.

3. Touchscreen Type & Size

There are mainly two types of touchscreen – resistive and capacitive. You should choose the one you are comfortable with, but normally a capacitive touchscreen is the ideal choice since resistive screens are generally less responsive and not that good to use.

Secondly, you need to determine the right screen size for you. These days even smartphones with 5-inch screens are available but it doesn’t necessarily mean you should go for them. Ideally a screen size of 3 or 3.5 inches is perfect since it allows you to enjoy the experience of a large screen and doesn’t’ feel too big to handle as well. At the end of the day, if you are looking for a huge display, then you should go for a tablet PC instead.

4. Connectivity Options

Though most mid-range smartphones nowadays come with all major connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wi-fi and 3G , still you should ascertain whether the smartphone you choose has all these as this will allow you to connect to the internet using a variety of options and also give you liberty to access the web free of cost in case Wi-fi is offered at a particular place.

5. Battery

The final and probably one of the most important features to look for while choosing a smartphone is its battery. The problem that most people encounter with high-end smartphones is that they usually offer a limited battery life since most of the battery is drained due to their high processing power and other features.

It’s for this reason that you should go for a mid-range smartphone as it will offer you nearly every feature while guaranteeing a decent battery life as well. Not only would you be able to enjoy all the benefits of a smartphone but also save yourself a lot of trouble of charging your phone again and again!

Sometimes it can seem a little bit like nit picking when industry reviews make a big deal about a fraction of an inch in difference between the size of one smartphone screen and another. Having said that, you will definitely notice the difference, at least on some applications, between the big screened models and the ones with smaller displays. How important this is probably depends upon the type of software you intend to use.
