2 Top Ways A Blogger Can Become An Expert In His Field

I’ve just found out that there are about 1 billion blogs out there. This means that whether you know it or not, one of your close friends is a blogger. The multitude of blogs means only 1 thing for us struggling to make a name for ourselves on the Internet – competition. There’s unlimited space in the blogosphere. And you can find just about any obscure information you need somewhere on the web. These are both positive outcomes of what we do on the web in the 21st century, but for bloggers and writers, it means we have to up our game in order to get ourselves heard. The easiest way to do this is to become an expert in your field. Sure, there are other ways to dominate your corner of the web, but these paths depend on what others do for, or with you – guest posting, SEO, networking, back links all partly depend on other bloggers’ whims, inclinations and agendas. Your expertise is in your hands only. Let’s look at 2 top ways you can become an expert in your field.

Blog about what you already know

Everyone knows when you’re trying to fake it. Are you running a blog about making money online, but are struggling to do so yourself? Unless you have the skill and know-how (and proof – in many cases) you present yourself as a flop to the straggling readers that have bothered to stay around. Blogging about what you already know encourages you to learn more about the subject because you’re confident in your knowledge. The response you get from readers you’re helping will spur you on to be better at your game. You can:

  • Blog about your hobby. You’ll have lots to say about something you know inside out.
  • Blog about an aspect of your job the public have a hard time understanding.
  • Are you an accountant? Many people need help doing their personal taxes. Run a blog specifically about this and you’ll have readers flocking. You won’t have to blog about making money online – you’ll be doing it from all your traffic and the attention the pertinent ads your pages are getting.
  • Do you live in a remote area many people can’t visit? You’re probably the only person who knows so much about this place.
  • Do you live in a holiday destination? Blog about what visitors can do cheaply and how they can experience the place as a local.
  • Have you built a patio from scratch? You’re an instant expert! Document your work with tutorials, pictures and tools quizzes etc.

There are hundreds of possibilities. Basically, you have to pinpoint what you know; how much you know more than the average person and blog about this. There’s no point in joining the already saturated market of iPhone blogs. They’ve already been gobbled up by people who’re intimate with this niche. Don’t forget to research all the time so that you can sharpen your knowledge to a nice, pointy edge no one else possesses.

Establish yourself as a middle-man/woman

Be interested and support people in the niche. And I’m not talking about the big boys and girls because they probably won’t notice you. The best people to support are the ones trying to make a name for themselves. If you’re instrumental in this process they’ll remember you and be indebted to you for life. When they make it, they’ll bring you up with them. Establish yourself and your blog as the midpoint of learning.

For example, there are thousands of big blogs out there showing people how to start a blog, or how to establish a blog. They cater to people who’re already way up in the business. They talk about coding and html as if these things were toddlers’ toys. Their market is obviously not the guy or girl who knows nothing about starting a blog and is merely on day one of blogging. Establishing yourself as someone who will help the little man get to where you are will give you a precise job – a precise place on the web where you’ll have a stronghold. You’re there to help people get better at blogging (or whatever niche you choose). Your expertise will show your readers how to learn something from scratch. In their eyes, you’re teaching a vital lesson. They can’t get to the top rung without first starting at the bottom. Your writing and tutorials all have to reflect this position.

There are other ways of becoming an expert in your field. However the two we’ve just covered are solely in your hands. You can do these on your own, without the input of other bloggers around you. Therefore you can use it to the fullest. Stop following the crowd. Stop lagging behind because of your lack of knowledge. Be your own expert and make a name for yourself by stepping out of the box you’ve allowed others to fit you into.

And never lose sight of the competition 😀 When you always watch the people you are fighting with in the same field, you will constantly get new ideas and learn how to stay away from what was already tried, maybe innovate?

I think that no matter what your interest is you will a good number of readers, but it’s important to write about what you are passionate about, if you don’t have the passion to write about a niche, you have to read about about it and like it, or just don’t write about it.
