REVIEW: Manage, Empty and Delete WordPress Databases the Easy Way

Although not limited to WordPress sites, managing, emptying and deleting databases is very important in the modern era particularly when it comes to Website maintenance. One cannot underestimate the adverse effects of losing vital information acquired over the years. Take for example a blogger who has been blogging for 10 years without back-up, a simple mishap could spell the end of his or her blogging career for life.

Whilst there are several plugins available in WordPress for managing databases, there are only very few backup plugins which stand out and WP-DBManager is one of the elite few. WP-DBManager by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan does a brilliant job of assisting bloggers/Webmasters in managing, emptying or deleting databases in addition to performing regular database back-ups that can be stored safe and securely or simply emailed to a designated address on a regular basis.

According to the developers, WP-DBManager manages your WordPress database by allowing users to optimize database, repair database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database , drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Furthermore it supports automatic scheduling of backing up, optimizing and repairing of database. Other advantages of WP-DBManager are listed below:

  • WP-DBManager uses mysqldump application to generate the backup and mysqlapplication to restore them via shell.
  • WP-DB-Backup uses PHP to generate the backup. In some cases WP-DB-Backup will work better for you because it requires less permissions. Not all host allows you to access mysqldump/mysql directly via shell.
  • WP-DBManager allows you to have automatic optimizing and repairing of database on top of backing up of database.

Don’t take a chance. Make sure you have a functional and reliable database manager installed on your WordPress sites today. Your life may just depend on it!

Deleting wordpress is not the funnest thing to do. I work with mobile sites and am occasionally challenged by this need.

This is useful reading. however, I am looking for a way to bulk alter all posts in a catagory to a specific date. They are all in one catagory and all posted in the last 2 weeks, there are about 200 posts but I need to push their publish dates back to get them off the 1st page. Would you have a resource I could check out?
