Things To Consider When Buying A Battery Powered Television

With the invention of LCD screens your average battery powered television (TV) is much more advanced than models of recent years. It’s now possible to purchase a TV that will fit right into your pocket. Now you can enjoy your favorite shows anytime, anywhere, even while you’re out camping with your family. Camping is great for kids during the day but it’s a bit trickier to keep them entertained when the sun goes down. However, that is easily achieved with a battery operated TV and, with a cup of hot chocolate your children will soon drift off to sleep watching a favorite television show.

If you regularly go places where there might be no reception a portable battery operated TV DVD player is the way to go. Some models will have an SD card slot and will play Divx movies so you won’t need to carry a whole bunch of DVD’s with you. Therefore, you can easily convert your kid’s favorite DVD’s to Divx and fit quite a few hours of TV on a large capacity SD card. Don’t forget to include some movies for the grown ups as well 😉

When you are choosing a battery powered television model that is right for you make sure you try it out in store before purchasing. Some cheaper LCD screens demonstrate what is known as motion blur. Most blur is caused by the pixels in the LCD screen not being able to change colors quickly enough for fast moving images. More expensive models will keep this phenomenon down to a minimum or eliminate it all together.

The viewing angle of the screen should also be taken into account. High viewing angle simply means that you can view the TV at different angles and still get a great picture. Smaller more portable models will usually only be viewed by one person at a time so viewing angle is not as crucial. If more than one person is going to be viewing the TV at a time then you give the viewing angle more consideration. The most common LCD screen size in battery operated TV’s is the 7 inch model. With a high resolution and brightness you can get quite a good quality picture on these models Try to get the brightest screen possible for the best viewing in lit up areas or daylight viewing. Also check the resolution as the higher the resolution the better quality picture you will get.

How long the batteries last between changing or charging is yet another consideration you might want to factor into your decision making. Battery operated TVs that run on standard batteries may not come with a battery charger so you may need to purchase one of those as well. A 12 volt charger is also great for topping your TV up in the car as well.

In times of emergency it’s comforting to know that technology can come to our aid and help us get through a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or earthquake. Portable radios have been in every household emergency kit for many years now but now it’s possible to have a battery operated TV as well.

Without a portable TV you won’t be able to get the crucial information that will broadcast over TV signals in a national emergency. Avoid the models that have lithium batteries in them as you won’t be able to recharge them while the power is out.

You can now even take a portable satellite receiver system with you when you’re out camping or travelling. One system, the PocketDish fits in your pocket but it’s not really a satellite TV as it’s only capable of recording from the satellite receiver. Not only does it record your favorite shows but you can put every other media on it as well including photos, music and games.

For an actual portable satellite receiver you would need to check out DirecTV’s SatGo system. With a 17″ LCD screen it’s a bit too big to fit in your pocket but it can be taken just about everywhere as it’s self contained in its own fold up case that is easy to transport. Makes for the perfect device on camping trips, days at the beach or having a tailgate party. Current know-how allows us to grab what entertainment we may while on the go and with our hectic way of life why shouldn’t we grab a few minutes to ourselves while out and about.

Nice things to consider are battery life, resolution, viewing angle, compatibility and purpose of the battery powered television.. I didn’t know it also came with the larger ones too..

Do they have any really good battery powered televisions that can be used in direct sunlight? I know that most of the time you can’t even see the screen as soon as you step outside – you would think that problem alone would make them just about useless.

You can also use your phone to watch tv but you’ll use up all the battery leaving you without a phone.. that’s why portable tv comes in..

Having good satellite could be important, I didn’t know portable TV had come that far. It would be a nice ‘toy’ for Christmas

What about solar powered (or just like an extra life) portables ? I dont care if i cant watch in sunlight – who do such thing anyway ? …no really..who? I can think of only three places where potables tv’s are worth anything : a long trip in bus, train or plane – no sunlight there.

Because seriously – you cant watch a tv properly when you are outside. (in most cases)

I remeber how bad these things were 10 years ago but having just picked one up and also having watched TV on my phone over the last month I can say they are amazing, the battery is my only concern

The quality of battery powered TVs have risen considerably over the past few years. One downside of having better picture quality on these portable TVs is that they tend to have shorter battery lives. Remember to bring the charger or spare batteries out with you when you go camping or when preparing for an emergency.

I think these tv’s will be more and more popular in the future, at the moment is a bit of a trade between picture quality and battery life, the better quality/worse battery life dilemma..

Just trying to figure out some DTV solutions. I have a non-powered set of rabbit ears and I’m not getting much results. I live nearly 60 miles from most local stations.

You heard wrong. Capacitors (at least small enough to fit in your phone) can’t hold enough charge to power a device for long.
