Must-Have Apps For Your Small Business

When you own your own small business, you need to make the most of your time. Investing time and effort into apps for your smartphone only to have them work poorly is frustrating and wastes your valuable time. We’ve rounded up the best of the best here for you to make your life more productive.

QuickOffice ($14.99)

If you’ve ever been out and about and needed to make a quick change to a Word Document, this app is for you. QuickOffice Mobile Office Suite allows you to be truly mobile by offering the functionality of your computer wherever you go. It includes Word, Excel, image viewing, and pdf viewing—everything you need to make your smartphone perform to its greatest capacity.

PageOnce (free)

Owning a small business means having lots of different accounts—banks, credit cards, bills, and investment accounts. Keeping track of all of this data is sometimes overwhelming, but PageOnce is here to help. It allows you to securely:

  • Track all your money and bills in one place
  • Receive bill due date reminders
  • Get important account notifications
  • Protect your account with real-time alerts
  • Monitor credit card & bank transactions

Purchase Order by Canvas (free)

Being able to create a purchase order on the fly can really be a life saver. Purchase Order by Canvas has the features you’ve been looking for in a mobile app: it allows you to enter shipping addresses, shipping methods, descriptions, quantities, prices, and totals. The completion screen for the order is very clear and allows you to sign right in the app. You won’t find a slicker purchase order app out there.

Informant ($12.99)

Every small business owner could use a personal assistant; for those of you without the budget to pay one, Informant fills in the gap at an affordable price. With a great calendar feature, a multifunctional “to do” tab that links to the calendar, and multiple reminder systems, you’ll never forget a vital appointment or task again. Why trust your memory when you can let Informant remember for you?

FileMagnet ($4.99)

With FileMagnet you’ll finally have access to all your files, all the time. It allows you to easily copy files from your computer onto your smartphone and you’ll be able to view all the popular file formats, including PDF, Microsoft Office, RTF, and iWork ’09 (even when you’re offline). Files are transferable via iTunes or wirelessly using a free program available for both Mac and Windows. It also gives you the option of opening email attachments directly in FileMagnet so you can view your files quickly, and it allows you to set passwords so that your documents are secure.

Using technology to its greatest advantage is vital for all small businesses, where margins run tight and competition is fierce. These apps will help you make the most of the time you have, and maybe even allow you to take more time off!

I personally use “Documents to go”, it’s one of, if not, the first smartphone applications that enabled your phone to read and edit office documents, word, excel etc. and also read pdf’s.

    I like your list Bonnie!

I currently use PageOnce and FileMagnet and they are fantastic apps! But I got to say a quick thanks because I’ve been looking for an app like quickoffice for quite a while now as I use excel a lot in my line of work, It’s always a pain having to cart a laptop around wherever I go, hopefully this app with make my daily commutes a little bit lighter 🙂

Thanks for the list Bonnie. Really appreciate it.

OpenOffice works, too. It’s free and mostly compatible with MS Office. Helpful list, Bonnie!

And I used snappii.com to make apps. I don’t have developer skills, and managed to make a cool custom app in less than an hour with snappii.

it’s true that having a backer like this site to write good reviews about these apps make things much easier for us to chose them. These are all nice apps. 🙂

What I like to do is to use the App store and check out the Top Productivity or business apps. There are tonnes of apps that are not only high popular, but can be very specialized to my needs. I love the accounting apps as they allow me to check my finances on the go. There is nothing like knowing how much is left in my spending account when I need to purchase new products for my company without going above budget.
