Facebook Denies Traffic Drop

facebook dropIn a quite unusual twist, Facebook has denied that it is losing users as suggested by Facebook monitoring site Inside Facebook which said that the world’s most popular social networking site lost 6 million users in the US and 100,000 users in the United Kingdom during the month of May.

The response from Facebook is quite surprising given that Facebook is not usually in the habit of commenting on third party statistics. However, the organisation questioned how Inside Facebook came about the figures particularly as other net measuring firms such as ComScore had reported growth, in the same countries, over the same period.

In a statement, Facebook said “From time to time, we see stories about Facebook losing users in some regions. Some of these reports use data extracted from our advertising tool, which provides broad estimates on the reach of Facebook ads and isn’t designed to be a source for tracking the overall growth of Facebook,”

“We are very pleased with our growth and with the way people are engaged with Facebook. More than 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day,”

I don’t think facebook will have a traffic drop any time soon.. and if it will have one.. I would certainly want to know the reason behind it..

I’ve noticed fb not being so popular round here anymore (UK). I think people are just getting tired of it. But then in some countries its only just getting popular.

Give it a few months and i think fb will start declining.

Maybe the trend is closing down in some countries but so far I don’t think facebook slipped to second place. The increasing spam activities in twitter made people join facebook but people still use twitter. So I don’t see the popularity of facebook waning and if its heading the wrong direction we need some major changes.

I think facebook would be dying very slowly and painfully but not now as Asia and other developing markets are key to Facebook’s future growth.

I know many reason, I think too many roles and restriction are the main reason of less traffic at Face Book. 2nd think that users are getting bored and feel unsecured of using Facebook and their privacy issues.

I think it will take a lot to displace Facebook as the world’s most popular social networking site. There is something about it that seems to appeal to so many users worldwide.

Google+ might be growing but it is still very unlikely for facebook to have a significant traffic drop.. atleast for now.. 😀

More than 50% of their users login any given day? Didn’t those statistics used to be more like 19%?
And what about all those fake accounts? Those accounts don’t login much, if ever.

I don’t know if I can believe fb. It is definitely in fb’s advantage to keep the people thinking that it’s still growing.

Maybe some users did not login in that particular time but not losing it. I don’t think it is because of google+ because most users of google+ if not all, has also an account in facebook. Meaning, they did not lost users.

I don’t believe that Facebook’s traffic has dropped. Come to think of it, Facebook is great. It’s the number one social media currently and they also update their site just to please and meet the expectations of their users. Most people use facebook to connect to their loved ones and it just doesn’t make any sense that their traffic is dropping. Google+ is popular but i don’t find any reason to go or even register since most of the people i knew prefer Facebook.

Hope this month – May 2012 gets more users to Facebook unlike May 2011.
