Google’s 4-year reign as the world’s most valuable brand has finally been taken over by Apple as a result of the recent successes of the iPhone, iPod and iPad. The study conducted by global brand agency, Millward Brown, shows that Apple is now worth $153billion, over $40billion more than Google.
According to Peter Walshe, global brands director of Millward Brown, Apple – which also overtook Microsoft to become the world’s most valuable technology company last year – has been successful due to its meticulous attention to detail as well as an increasing presence of its gadgets in corporate environments.
A complete list of the top ten brands in the world (dominated by technology and telecommunications companies) according to the survey which was carried out before the March earthquake that caused massive disruption to Japanese supply networks, is shown below.

- Apple – $153.3 billion
- Google – $111.5 billion
- IBM – $100.8 billion
- McDonald’s – $81 billion
- Microsoft – $78.2 billion
- Coca-Cola – $73.7 billion
- AT&T – $69.9 billion
- Marlboro – $67.5 billion
- China Mobile – $57.3 billion
- General Electric – $50.3 billion
Other Facts
- Nineteen of the top 100 brands came from emerging markets, up from 13 last year.
- Facebook entered the top 100 at number 35 with a brand valued at £11.7billion ($19.1billion), while Chinese search engine Baidu rose to number 29 from 46.
- Toyota reclaimed its position as the world’s most valuable car brand, as it recovered from a bungled 2010 product recall.
- The total value of the top 100 brands rose by 17 per cent to £1.5trillion ($2.4trillion), as the global economy shifted to growth.

Wow! It’s really a great milestone from apple. They totally dethroned the 4 year number 1 google with amazing 43 billion difference. I’m proud that I’m one of the reason why apple is number 1 because I bought their Iphone 4 and ipad 2. 🙂

It’s a classic underdog story and a perfect example of how titans fall in the tech sector. Not so long ago, Apple was getting thrashed by Microsoft. They simply out-innovated the competition.

My warmest congratulations to apple. Actually they really deserve this recognition. What is the best with this company is the fact that they made their customers feel that they’re a big part of the growing success of the company. I like their products because it is in standard quality and user-friendly details.

I just read an article from March 19th 2012 that states that Apple is the world’s most valuable breand, but rates its worth at 70.6 billion. This seems strange, did their value drop by half?? I don’t think so, it sounds as though the research is using a different data set or something.
