trineWhen you think of the word “indie” the first thing that may come to mind may be one of your favourite indie music groups; but believe it or not over the past few years there has even been an “indie” explosion in the video games market as well, as more and more video games addicts are choosing to wire away from the mainstream video games market and into the independent video games movement instead.

Whether you’re getting bored of playing the same video games on Facebook, or if you’re just hoping to tap into the underground video games scene, then here are five highly-addictive video games that could keep you entertained for days, weeks, months, or even years:

1. Minecraft

Everyone seems to be talking about Minecraft’s addictiveness as of late, and this is coming from people who don’t usually play video games. To date approximately 7,147,507 users have registered to play Minecraft, and as much as 28.45% (or 2,033,582 users) have purchased the video games because of its addictiveness.

The purpose of Minecraft is to place blocks and build a variety of different buildings, which can be as small as a shack or as big as a national museum, and to also make sure you have shelter at all times before the “monsters” come out at night and kill you.

2. Clickr

This popular puzzle game by Ntreev Soft is the type of game that is a great time-waster; so if you’re the type of person who has a lot of time on your hands or you’re constantly struggling with boredom, then this game may be the answer to all of your prayers. All you have to do is match the colored blocks and then make them disappear, it’s that easy!

3. Trine

This “physics-based action videogame “allows users to choose from three different characters (a wizard, a thief, or a knight) and each of the characters have their own specific ability and tactic to help you attack threatening enemies and tackle obstacles.

4. Shank

If you’re looking for a more crime-fighting type of videogame, then this game is for you, as players are required to shoot, slice, grenade, or even chainsaw their enemies in order to advance to the next level. (Shank is the sole character of the game who is a former gang member, and is on a “bloody path of revenge” to take down his boss after he threatens to murder Shank’s wife).

5. Machinarium

Whether you’re a fan of the puzzle-type of games or even action-based games, this site is bound to get you addicted within minutes after you start playing. The game was developed by the Czech Republic’s Amanita Design, and the goal of the game is to solve different puzzles and brain teasers.

    My favorite indie game is the pinball game that comes pre-installed in Windows… I love the sound effects and the challenges

    From those games to be honest i played only Machinarium. I really like the artistic graphics and the general feeling when you are plying this awesome puzzle game. And without a doubt that this is a very addictive game.

    I’ve only played Trine before.
    This article would’ve been better with some pictures or youtube clips.

    I might try Minecraft sometime, sounds like a lot of fun.

    definitely independent video games are worth to take a look at. Besides, it is a huge business. As far as I know Minecraft currently has one of the most active and creative modding communities in the gaming world,
