A recent study has revealed that the iPhone no longer belongs to the top five of most sought after smartphones in the United Kingdom. According to the uSwitch.com Mobile Tracker, which ranks consumer’s favourite handsets based on live searches and sales, the HTC now dominates the top three positions while the iPhone has slipped down to sixth place. With plenty of similarities between the iPhone and other smartphones, the change in status has been attributed to style and cost by some analysts. The main advantage Apple holds over its rivals is probably in the tens of thousands of apps available for download in the Apple Store although other Android powered smartphones appear to be gradually catching up in that area.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the HTC Desire comes first on the league table, followed by HTC Desire HD and HTC Wildfire. Since it launch in October 2010, HTC Desire has been heralded as an example of the best Android OS has on offer with its numerous functionalities in addition to access to thousands of apps. With the likes of the HTC Desire raking in positive reviews on a regular basis, Apple cannot afford to sit back. Already, there are talks of the imminent launch of a new iPhone version this summer. I am not surprised because HTC is one of the most popular Android smartphones out there. I think droids are way better than the iPhones, and I’m not just saying this because I have one. I think what makes these phones so attractive to consumers are the amount of different apps you can use.
I know Apple doesn’t like this report and I’m sure they will do all they can to make their new iPhone version this summer a smash hit and regain their number one position. Thanks for sharing.

HTC does seem to have an increasing foothold within the smartphone market. I don’t see the iPhone as a ‘smartphone’ as such, it’s more a ‘style phone’ then anything else. Smartphone’s like the HTC are actually proper smartphones, where as the iPhone is in it’s own category.
People don’t need to argue over which is better, as they’re different beasts, They all have their pro’s and con’s. I love the iPhone myself, but i get why others prefer the HTC devices.

but I wouldn’t call the iPhone a smartphone either. Though there isn’t any industry defined standard for “smartphones”. I’d say its something that works similar to a PC.(Look at iOS, I’d call it more of a console/game console – the way it works)
It lacks any real customization. Which is why high end/HTC Android phones are annihilating it in the current market. iPhones are for people who want ease of use, and don’t care about “making their phone, their own” or changing things to how they want.
Whereas android phones are for people who want to be able to do anything at all, and change anything to their own preference/s.
Apple’s marketing is slowly losing out. I threw my iPhone 3GS in the trash when I got my Desire. 🙂 I think apple has no chance in beating google/android, unless they step up their game and give people real features. Which I highly highly doubt, cause they are just getting more and more closed. :/

This Mobile Ranking List is completely right. HTC develops the best piece of technology, Their almost every product is extremely well made and user friendly. iphone is more about application, i dont appreciate it much. HTC Mobiles are attractive from every angle design, quality, features and most importantly long run reliability. Personally i like HTC desire HD more than HTC desire.

I don’t think you can judge the popularity and consumers choice like this.
Those HTC’s came out much later than the Iphone, if everybody who wants an Iphone already has one then sales will decline.
That is also the reason why Android phones are taking over, because there are so many different ones and almost every month a new one comes out and those phones are/will be faster than the Iphone that is already becoming old.
Then when a new Iphone comes out it will definitely be number 1 for a while.

This revealing study speaks a lot about how HTC is taking on smartphones. However, I beg to differ and feel that the latest iphone that is on sale by Apple will soon capture the market.

I believe that iphone 4s will give cut throat competition to HTC Desite. The new iphone offered by Apple has all the features in it and has an edge over HTC. Great camera with lot of built in applications!

Love my HTC Inspire (newer form of the Desire) and would not trade it for an iPhone….my son has the iPhone 4G, and I much prefer my HTC to it…

HTC makes a better phone than apple hands down. The Iphone is over rated it’s ridiculous. I have the HTC Thunderbolt and I’d choose it over the Iphone 4s any day.
