PREVIEW: Google Body – The New 3D Body Browser

Google is developing a new browser that maps out the entire human body, called Google Body. The Google Body Browser is an explorable 3D model of a human body. It allows users to explore the human body in a similar way to Google Earth, which allows users to explore the Planet through an Internet connection. Users will be able to spin and scroll through different layers of the body from a clothed-form, to muscles, and organs. Each layer can also be removed and explored individually.

Prior to its official unveiling, Internet users with WebGL-supported browsers such as Google Chrome Beta and Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta can download a preview from the Google Body Browser site (http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com). WebGL technology, which allows complex 3D graphics to be viewable on normal Web pages without the use of Java or Flash add-ons, is widely expected to become standardised in the next versions of Web browsers.

Already, Google Body has been tipped to change the way the human body is studied and increase understanding of home the body works particularly for students in medical education such as, Biology and Anatomy.

  1. Internet King Google constantly comes up with something very innovative and useful for their user. This idea of body Google 3d human body browser is truly awesome. One needs no Java or flash to make it run on his/her browser. Its available for Google Chrome Beta and Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta, WebKit nightly but why not Internet explorer? internet explorer doesn’t support WebGL?

  2. I don’t really understand what Google has to do with things like this. They are a Search engine/advertisement seller, not a doctor.
I don’t mind though, just doesn’t feel safe when such a big and powerful company starts to branch out.
