What Is The Best Registry Cleaner?

windows-registry-cleanerIf you have registry problems the easiest way to resolve them is by obtaining one of the best registry cleaners you can find. Whilst it is possible to edit the registry manually, this is very time consuming and potentially disastrous if you are not totally sure of what you are doing. You could pay a technician to do this but it would be costly, however a little background information and research in finding the best registry cleaners can make it very simple to fix registry problems.

Having decided that you need to clean the registry the next issue is deciding which registry cleaner to use as there are numerous products on the market. In order to try and offer assistance with this, we decided to evaluate several better known products so took eleven of the popular registry cleaners and ran scans. It fast became apparent that comparing the results directly was not valid as the content of the scans differed but for the record, the number of errors shown was from 391 to 3881. In some cases the definition of the area being scanned was the same but the errors reported varied considerably, which illustrates the issue of defining “errors”.

Registry Cleaners evaluate the data in the registry and report (then offer to delete) any invalid, unused or corrupt data which might impact the functioning of the PC. They may also defragment the registry database to make it more efficient. However, there is no way to know for sure what is redundant or invalid and there is a temptation for companies to make their package more “aggressive” so that it finds more “registry problems” than its competitors. It is also possible that some software packages over-rate the impact of a registry problem to imply that a registry fix is urgent.

If a registry cleaner is too aggressive it may delete information a program that is required by a key software on your computer or indeed the operating system itself, thereby making the computer unstable. If it is not aggressive enough, it will not do its job properly. Whilst most registry cleaners give the user an option to set what should be deleted, in general most non-technical users will go with the program’s guidance. There is therefore a minor risk of a negative impact on the computer.

It is therefore non-conclusive to maintain that any software is the best to use to registry repair as the outcome will vary depending on the state of the system concerned. Our conclusion was that the reasonable way forward is to choose any products that is user friendly, have excellent user-feedback (on independent Web sites) and meet the following key criteria:

  • Support at a minimum Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 – to avoid risk of using on an inappropriate system.
  • Automatically backs-up the registry before cleaning – so it can be restored if there are any problems after cleaning.
  • Offer a money-back guarantee – so you can get a refund if it does not work.

“If a registry cleaner is too aggressive it may delete information a program that is required by a key software on your computer or indeed the operating system itself, thereby making the computer unstable.” Yikes, got to avoid that while allowing it to be aggressive enough. Thanks for the share!
