Microsoft Set To Launch New Mobile Phone Software

With Apple dominating the Smart phones market and Microsoft coming a distant fourth, the organisation has announced the launch of a new mobile phone software due to be released for sales in October 6th. The new Mobile 6.5 is being hyped by Microsoft as the next “big thing” that would revolutionalise the smart phone market and give Microsoft the upper hand against its rivals.

While there is no guarantee that this new software will improve sales let alone break records (as being reported), the following mobile operators and handset makers have already signed on; AT&T and Verizon in the US, Orange and T-Mobile in Europe, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Toshiba Corporation, Acer, Telecom Italia Mobile in Latin America and NTT DoCoMo Inc and SK Telecom in Asia Pacific.

Unfortunately, a look at recent smart phone statistics would suggest that Microsoft is not exactly in touch with reality and is probably getting carried away. In spite of the organisation’s dominance of desktop and server OS markets, the same cannot be said of the mobile market – while “smart phones are the fastest growing segment of the mobile phone market with over 27% increase from last year, Canalys reports that “shipments of devices powered by Windows mobile fell to 9% of global smart phone shipments, down from the company’s 14.3% share in the same period in 2008”.

how it can be compared with E71 and Google T1 Mobile

Symbian OS remains the most popular and Windows Mobile does not even come close at the moment. Google Android is actually further back in the pecking order probably because it was only recently released in 2008.

  2. Microsoft has to be careful. They displayed how out of touch they are with the Windows Vista debacle.

Regarding the Smart Phone market, they have a lot of catching up to do!

It should be interested to see how this plays out.

  3. When I first hear about Microsoft getting into the touch screen smartphone all I could think of was the ZUNE. Why MS would even try to launch this phone now seems advatagise to their business. There is no way this phone will cature much of the Cell Phone market. IPhone users are addicted and will not even think of changing. Their is just so much users can use with iPhone. Look at all the APPs available now.

  4. Seriously, how about a little fact checking before you post?

It called Windows Phone 7 and it has already been announced. Europe will have handsets on October 1st and the US will get then on November 8th.

It will be available in over 30 countries on 60 carriers.

It’s not that hard to find this information online, tech sites have been writing about it for AGES now.
