4 Tips for Making Your Backyard More Private

If you live in a temperate climate, there’s no reason for you not to relax and dine alfresco during the summer. Still, a perfect ambience in your backyard can easily be ruined by noisy neighbors and the encroaching view. So if you want to be able to truly enjoy spending time in your backyard, you should do whatever you can to make it more private. Luckily there are many easy ways you can do this. We have come up with 4 tips you’ll definitely find useful.

Get Some Privacy Plants

This is one of the most common things people do in order to prevent others from taking a glance at their backyards. What’s so great about these is that they not only increase privacy in your backyard but make it look better as well. There are many different types of privacy plants you can opt for. So if you’re looking to block the sight into your yard, you can always opt for some columnar evergreens such as Italian cypress or arborvitae. While planting any of these, you have to make sure you dig a trench that’s at least 0.5 m wide and 0.5 m deep. Also, bear in mind that privacy plantings should be watered quite frequently during the first year.

Install a Fence

Another thing you can do to make your backyard more private is install a fence. This is a great way to prevent others from peeking into your backyard since a standard fence can provide you with year-round screening. Also, if your backyard is quite small, a standard fence is the best option since these have relatively small footprints. If you opt for installing a fence, make sure you check out local regulations about fence heights and any other possible restrictions. In most of the cases, a fence that is 2 m high is enough to provide you with all the privacy you need. Today, there are so many types of fences you can choose from and you’re guaranteed to come across something that’ll fit the rest of your backyard perfectly.

Grow a Container Garden

If you’re looking for a way to make your garden more private but you also want it to be absolutely fabulous, you can always think about growing a container garden. Even though a container garden might require some extra maintenance, it’s one of the best ways to add some style into your backyard. If you think you won’t be able to take care of it, you can always install a fence and only screen some parts of it with a container garden. This way, you won’t have to spend too much time taking care of it and your backyard will still look great. Showy annuals and some ornamental grasses are all the plants you’re going to need for a garden like this.

Install Panels and Shade Sails

If screening your backyard seems like too much of a trouble, you can always screen just a small part of it. Some outdoor areas like a patio or an outdoor kitchen are much easier to screen than the entire backyard. If you decide to do this, getting some panels and shade sails is absolutely a great idea. Panels won’t allow people passing on the street to take a look at your backyard while shade sails will prevent people in neighboring buildings from glancing at you from above. Another great thing about shade sails is that they are going to protect you from the sun as well. You can also buy waterproof shade sails and be able to spend time outside during rainy days as well.

No matter which of these solutions you opt for, you’re guaranteed not to be bothered by your neighbors or passersby. If there’s still too much noise in your backyard, you can always install a small fountain as well in order to mask it.  Implement these 4 tips for making your backyard more private and cozy.
