How to Help the Average Worker Become More Tech-Literate

As the world becomes more tech-savvy, it is important for a business to stay current with the times. Making the investment in better technology is important. Another investment involves teaching workers how to become more tech-literate. Technology literacy is important because it gives an employee a competitive edge in the marketplace and is a marketable skill. It is also helpful because too many employers are laying off the Baby Boomer workers who may not be up to date with technology. In return, they’re hiring millennials who know nothing but technology. Instead of throwing away employees based on their dated skill sets, help them build their skills. Try these three ways to encourage technological literacy among employees.

Course Offerings

Many companies have partnerships with community colleges and universities that will subsidize costs for employees to receive training. Offer these opportunities to employees and put the ball in their hands. Allow them to make the decision to become more well-versed in different programs and updates. Within education, many school counties offer career development courses that teachers within the county facilitate and teach other teachers. This is an excellent example of “paying it forward.” Find out if there are any employees within the company who are tech-savvy. Consider offering a stipend in exchange for teaching a class to the other employees.

Cyber Security Awareness Training

Many people are hesitant to use technology because they’re afraid of losing information and/or leaking the wrong info and causing a breach of security. Cyber security awareness training is very helpful because it shows employees the details of proper cyber conduct, procedures, policies, and notifications to look out for. For example, using a security awareness training guide can help employees stay safe from system breaches. It also helps them become more knowledgeable about concepts such as cyber-attacks and cyber threats.

Tutorials

One of the easiest forms of technology involves the Internet and Google. Thanks to Google, it is so easy to find tutorials on any subject matter. A great way to help the average worker learn more about technology is through sharing routine tutorials on YouTube. Acquire a great screen-sharing software. They’re really easy to purchase and download from online. Once the software has been downloaded, record a series of tutorials showing different skills. Upload the tutorials to a private link on YouTube that’s only for the employees and allow them to practice at their leisure.

These three strategies are great steps to help any average worker become more tech-literate. As long as they agree to absorb the information and apply it, employee growth in the field of technology will definitely increase.
